Zab Judah Files Protest With Nevada, WBA, IBF Over Amir Khan Fight

According to a press release from Main Events, Zab Judah has filed a formal protest with the Nevada State Athletic Commission and has sent letters to the World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) in hopes of receiving an immediate rematch with Amir Khan.

On July 23, Khan stopped Judah in the fifth round of their fight in Las Vegas. Judah complained that the knockout shot was a low blow, but there wasn't much controversy to anyone that wasn't affiliated with Judah.

"We know Zab was behind on the scores cards but there are numerous examples in boxing history where boxers that were behind came back with a knockout," said Bill Halkias of Super Judah Promotions. "The fact that Zab was behind has no bearing on whether the low blow call was wrong. We still had seven more rounds to fight. Zab still could have won, but that opportunity was wrongfully taken away from him."

Duva continues to encourage people to watch tape of the finish.

"Before making any judgments, I would ask everyone to take a look at the tape," said Duva. "The video doesn't lie."

It doesn't lie, but it also doesn't clearly indicate a low blow, and that's from every angle, in slow motion.

I will say that I wish Judah would just move on, because absolutely nothing is going to come of this, and it feels like this is only happening because of the Mares vs Agbeko controversy, and the fact that the IBF ordered an immediate rematch of that catastrophe.

But I will also add that Agbeko, who was hit far more obviously low than Judah was, got up on a bad knockdown call. Judah did not. Judah stayed down. Zab Judah, as he's fond of saying, has been a professional since he was 19 years old. He's 33 now. He knows better than to stay down in that situation.

Can’t believe Duva is going along with this crap. I’m sure she’s getting a lot of pressure from the Judah camp.

He’s never getting a rematch. He needs to go back to training and work on things…like throwing punches.

I love that photo:

Zab: “Look mom, they cheated!!!! I was just resting! Waaaahhh”
Duva: “Yes baby, I know, don’t worry, Mommy will make it beddur”

Commissions hate changing decisions, and you can see why, it would turn to a free-for-all in nano-seconds if boxers with Ls thought getting the decision changed was possible—BoxAnne on Aug 16, 2011 9:12 AM EDT

This is exactly why (plus other potential complications) commissions and sanctioning bodies hate anything to do with rematches and decision changes/reversals, and who could blame them. What Duva/Judah are doing is insulting to the bodies involved and the public, and subversive to the general good of the sport. Beyond words annoying. It’s like using the courts for harrassment purposes. I hope they squash him just as fast as they worked with Agbeko.

big difference tho...

Agbeko imo clearly deserved a NC as the quantity of damaging low blows must have altered his energy levels & as such the outcome of the fight. Zab’s just being a bitch here! And to do it so long after his fight and even after Agbeko’s appeal throws his own bullshit into sharp contrast with Agbeko’s legitimate beef.
Ps I’m totally loving you for having the ego to quote yourself…there’s something oddly sexy about pretentiousness on that high a level

Bad for boxing

Add Judah to Joe Tessitore’s “Bad for Boxing” list…simply embarrassing

Do you think we could talk Tessitore into adding himself to his own list?

Oh he’s a bit of a ham, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say he’s “bad for boxing”. At least he gives a shit about the sport unlike several other commentators.

And Judah has to know in his heart of hearts that he wanted out of the fight and he seized his opportunity. He was getting starched in there. I hope this is the last him as a high level fighter. I think this time it might finally be true.

You beat me to it! You’re right, Tessitore is one of the few who seems genuinely enthusiastic about the sport.

I think Papa is a better, but I’d Joe over Gus any day of the week.
