Vanes Martirosyan is waiting, and Alfredo Angulo's camp says he's ready. (PBoto by Al Bello/Getty Images)
Alfredo Angulo's trainer Nacho Beristain is confident that his fighter will get past Vanes Martirosyan, and then beat Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in 2012. From Salvador Rodriguez:
"(Angulo) is ready for those two. He must train well, as he always does, but I think he's ready."
But he's also concerned about whether or not the fights will happen, saying he feels that Martirosyan is "feasible," but that with the advertising money behind Canelo, that one might not be. What I did find a bit charming was Beristain's allegation that Angulo has fought some tough schedule, while Canelo has not. There is nobody who can convince me that Angulo's slate of opponents has been any tougher than what Alvarez has faced thus far. Sorry, it's just not a reality.
Angulo vs Martirosyan could happen, but it will have to happen in Mexico, and Martirosyan seems weary of fighting Angulo in a WBC eliminator without Golden Boy Promotions specifically guaranteeing that if he beats Angulo, he will get to fight Canelo Alvarez next.
All this Talk ill Belive it when I see it @OscarDeLaHoya if u want my number to call let me know I'm waiting ... left right n uppercut..I'm waiting and I haven't gotten ur phone call yet? Yawn!
Who can blame him?
One other note: An Angulo vs Martirosyan bout would be another chapter in the bitter trainer rivalry between Freddie Roach and Nacho Beristain, who will again square off on November 12 when Manny Pacquiao faces Juan Manuel Marquez.
