A welterweight fight for October 8 may be in the works between UK prospect/contender Kell Brook and Polish veteran Rafal Jackiewicz.
Brook (24-0, 16 KO) is coming off of a dominant decision win over Lovemore N'dou on June 25, his first fight under new promoters Matchroom Sport. Jackiewicz (38-9-1, 19 KO) has won two straight fights against poor opposition in Poland after a close loss to IBF titlist Jan Zaveck last September.
Brook, 25, may be looking to get himself in line for a shot at that IBF belt. In the latest big four sanctioning body rankings, Brook is ranked the No. 2 contender to the WBO title (Manny Pacquiao); No. 5 contender to the WBA title (Vyacheslav Senchenko); and No. 14 contender to the WBC title (Victor Ortiz). But he is currently unranked by the IBF, whose title will be on the line on September 3 when Zaveck faces Andre Berto. Jackiewicz is currently rated No. 5 contender by the IBF, and a Brook victory could get him some attention. As the other three belts are currently not near his reach for one reason or another -- Pacquiao is a megastar, Ortiz is fighting a megastar next, and Senchenko hides away at home -- getting ranked by the IBF is actually a fairly big deal if he can make it happen.
