Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar de la Hoya and his newest star fighter Victor Ortiz will be guests on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" at 9 p.m. this evening (Wed., August 31), and Oscar is expecting that the young man who has so often been compared to the "Golden Boy" himself will be a hit once a wider audience gets to know him.
"I am thrilled to be able to show CNN's millions of viewers a different side of the sport that I love so much," said de la Hoya in a press release. "Victor Ortiz went from an orphan to a champion and his story is one that I truly believe anyone watching Piers Morgan Tonight tomorrow will find not only interesting, but inspiring. I think after seeing his interview with Piers Morgan, the general public is going to welcome Victor with open arms."
I've said before that although Ortiz doesn't quite tickle my fancy as a boxing fan, I can see him being a genuine crossover star and someone that audiences take to very easily. He's laid-back, he says lots of cliche stuff that people seem to like, and his story is truly very interesting and inspiring. Tonight will be his first real chance to go outside of the boxing world and appeal to that broader audience.
