Juan Manuel Marquez has arrived in the Philippines after leaving last night from Los Angeles with Bob Arum, as the press tour starts on Saturday in Manila for Marquez's fight with Manny Pacquiao. Marquez says he's prepared for what he knows is his last chance to get Pacquiao in the ring (though there is a major money rematch clause if Marquez pulls the upset):
"I know this is my last opportunity to meet and beat him so I am getting help from some people to help me prepare hard for this hard fight," said Marquez, who will link up with a nutritionist and conditioning coach as part of his preparation.
50,000 are expected to attend in Manila, which will include a press conference at the Manila Hotel, and then an event in Luneta Park. To put that in perspective, Pacquiao couldn't get 50,000 into Cowboys Stadium for a fight in the United States. Now granted, you had to pay money to go to the fight, but it was the fight, not just some media event.
The tour will then head to New York on Tuesday, September 6, where Pacquiao and Dan Hill will perform their rendition of "Sometimes When We Touch." The event in New York will start at 10 a.m. EDT at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers - Pier 61, and the press conference is open to the public.
After that, the two will head to Los Angeles, followed by Mexico City.
