Hopkins vs Dawson Undercard: Kendall Holt vs Danny Garcia Fight Is Set
A nice step-up fight for 140-pound prospect Danny Garcia against veteran contender Kendall Holt is set for the October 15 HBO pay-per-view Hopkins vs Dawson undercard, Keith Idec reports.
Holt (27-4, 15 KO) has fought twice this year after missing 11 months following a terrible loss in 2010 to Kaizer Mabuza. In January, Holt blew past Lenin Arroyo in 1:50, and then in May on Friday Night Fights, he flattened Julio Diaz with a monstrous left hook, ending the fight in the third round. When focused and in shape, Holt is one of the most dangerous, exciting fighters in the division, and a tough out for anyone top to bottom. He's got hand speed, he's got power that goes beyond a pretty pedestrian KO rate, and his vulnerability makes him a very entertaining fighter to watch.
Garcia (21-0, 14 KO) is a talented prospect, but not a blue chipper, and the time is right for him to step up. The 23-year-old Philly product struggled in February 2010 to earn a debated decision over Ashley Theophane, but since then has been on a pretty decent roll, though not against the most noteworthy competition. He stopped free-falling Mike Arnaoutis in four last October, and in April of this year got a points win over Nate Campbell that was more competitive than the scores might lead you to believe.
The fight will be a 10-rounder, and like the card's main event, really seems to belong on the east coast rather than Los Angeles, but that's just how the cookie has crumbled for the show.

I like Holt in this fight. He’s fighting for his career and has nasty power. He did drop Tim Bradley twice and I think his loss to Maibaza was due to lack of motivation and preparation. A motivated Holt is very dangerous. In fact, I think he’d have as good a shot as anyone at 140 at stopping Amir Khan
i like Holt big here, but I’m not exactly a huge Garcia believer.
Bad Left Hook

This is a great fight for Holt. I’d be very surprised if Garcia’s got anywhere near enough to pull it out.
