Ruslan Provodnikov Out of Friday Night Fights Season Finale
Ruslan Provodnikov has suffered a shoulder injury in training and is out of his scheduled August 19 rematch with Mauricio Herrera, which ruins a neat little storyline that had the 2011 season of ESPN's Friday Night Fights starting and ending with the same main event.
Corey Erdman reports that promoter Artie Pellulo is trying to get junior middleweight prospect Demetrius Andrade (13-0, 9 KO) into the now-open TV slot in the co-feature, with the David Diaz vs Hank Lundy fight bumped to the main event. Diaz vs Lundy was always going to be mostly responsible for the draw in Hammond, Ind., as the city is just across the Indiana-Illinois border, and Diaz is a native of nearby Chicago.
ESPN isn't keen on Andrade against Sammy Gonzalez (7-0-1, 3 KO) on the show, but may have to settle for what's available given the short notice. Diaz vs Lundy is a fine Friday Night Fights main event, really, and the Andrade co-feature may not get anyone too excited, but we're talking about a show that's 15 days away. What kind of main event can you really come up with in that time?

That’s a shame. All in all this season was great though.

No Provodnikov, no Atlas. Bummer.

On the plus side, I think Sergio Mora is actually quite a good color commentator. (Now watch him stink.)
