Klitschko vs Adamek: Live Results and Round-by-Round Coverage

Vitali Klitschko defends his WBC heavyweight title today against Tomasz Adamek.

Today at 4:45 p.m. EDT on HBO (United States), Sky Sports 3 (United Kingdom), RTL (Germany) and PPV (Poland), the biggest fight in Polish boxing history comes your way, and Bad Left Hook will be here for live, round-by-round coverage.

WBC heavyweight titlist Vitali Klitschko will come to the new, 42,000-seat Stadion Miejski in Wroclaw to take on fan favorite Tomasz Adamek, a former light heavyweight titleholder and cruiserweight champion.

Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO) really hasn't fought in about a year, since a 12-round beatdown of Shannon Briggs in Hamburg. He did fight in March, but the bout lasted just one round before Odlanier Solis was forced out with a knee injury.

Adamek (44-1, 28 KO) is the fighting pride of Poland these days, and has become a big live draw in New Jersey, where he currently lives. He's a well-liked, well-respected fighter who will have the majority of the sold out crowd behind him. The odds are solidly in Klitschko's favor, so Adamek will need every ounce of that crowd support if he is to pull off what would be the biggest heavyweight upset in years.

TV question

So on my HBO, it has the Klitschko fight at 1:45 pacific as expected. For this evening’s fight it lists Klitschko’s fight again but no mention of Gamboa at 7:30 pacific. Is that going to be before/after a replay of the Klitschko fight?

by David Fucillo on Sep 10, 2011 4:00 PM EDT reply actions

I think Gamboa is live at 10:30, with the Klitschko replay after.

I’ve been looking forward to this fight for a while. I like the Klitschkos, but Adamek is a freakin’ Highlander!

Prescott is totally uneven, and I don’t know anything about McCloskey really.

People keep saying stuff like that, but then there’s the fact that Khan vs Judah can’t draw over 3500 paid or so in Vegas, and Tim Bradley can’t sell out his backyard, and Berto can’t move 1000 tickets in his home state, etc. I know there’s a great big world out there, but boxing in the United States remains a bit of a mess save for the rare fight with Pacquiao or Floyd.

Oh the size differential is just enormous. My God.

Jab to the body by Adamek. Vitali comes in with a right hand that doesn’t even land, i don’t think, and Lampley goes HARD RIGHT HAND. Oh my God, Lampley is calling “another Vitali Klitschko whitewash” all of 1:10 into the round. Jesus Christ. Really? People think he’s good?

Vitali moving in, but kind of stiff when he does. Adamek is doing nothing though. Klitschko totally dominating the pace, or lack thereof. Vitali with a jab. Adamek stumbles a bit on a right before that, but not really hurt. Well, this is about what I expected.

Adamek starts making some moves and getting in closer. He’s trying. He’s felt him out and he just might live up to what everyone was promising. Adamek got a left hook in, and a right hand. Adamek coming alive. Chopping right hand from Vitali. Right hand by Adamek. far better round from Adamek, and a closer one than most we see with, and now Vitali hurts him! Vitali didn’t even follow up. Should have been called a knockdown.

Adamek is trying, but he can’t take punches from Klitschko at all.

And that should have been a knockdown.

Klitschko vs Adamek Round 3

Vitali really trying to time him with that right hand. He knows just one could end this. Adamek still trying his ass off. I mean he’s not going wild, but he’s looking for any opening he can find, and doing the absolute best job you could have realistically expected. Klitschko dominating this fight in terms of where it goes and where it’s fought. Adamek goes to the body in close, but he can’t dent Vitali. Bless his heart, he’s trying.

Adamek starting the round better. He’s getting a bit more comfortable, but he’s also eaten two stiff right hands in the first minute. Adamek still working, making this a fight at least. Klitschko pushing him around now. Big right hand knocks Adamek back, and this one is called a knockdown, which it absolutely was. Klitschko is just far, far too strong.

Adamek will fight on. He looks now like he’s totally out of ideas and like he’s lost his will a little bit. This is now a total mismatch, which it has been physically since the bell. Klitschko just bullying him around the ring. Adamek wants nothing to do with him.

Very brave man, Tomasz Adamek. Maybe too brave for his own good.
Respect to the man all the same .

F’king pointless, somebody shoot that ref.

by Phill on Sep 10, 2011 5:51 PM EDT reply actions

Very brave effort from Adamek. He went out hard, and the referee made a good stoppage.

I wonder if this is the end for Vitali

Haye’s the next victim, apparently.

by Matt Mosley on Sep 10, 2011 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Fine by me. Adamek was doing nothing but getting bounced from rope to rope that round anyway.

Haye v Klitschko in March next year?

by Dave Oakes on Sep 10, 2011 5:52 PM EDT reply actions

That would be my guess.

Vitali will do what Wlad couldn’t though.
KO the arrogant idiot.

by Matt Mosley on Sep 10, 2011 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Adamek is vastly better than Haye, and fought the way everyone (i.e. me) thought he would. He would be a #1 contender in any era.

But I think the Klitschkos get a raw deal with the claim that they are only dominant in an impoverished era of heavyweight boxing. I think their size, speed, and power (especially with the jab) would make them dominant in any era.

Adamek is vastly better than Haye

I can’t say i agree with this. Braver? For sure. Better? Not in my opinion. And cewratinly not “vastly better”.
Haye is more talented, more athletic, and more powerful, imo. Though Adamek likely has the better chin and is generally tougher.
I don’t like Haye and i do like Adamek as personalities, but i rate Haye above him as a boxing talent.
I don’t think Haye would win easily though.
Adamek would make him fight and work hard.

I hope not

It’s as good a final fight as is available. Would you rather have Vitali v. Fury?

by El Destruyo on Sep 10, 2011 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions

haye vs adamek

by Chris Sarda on Sep 10, 2011 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions

That would at least be competitive.
I would be picking Haye there for sure, even though i can’t stand the guy.

by Matt Mosley on Sep 10, 2011 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Sure. Shoulda happened at cruiser, may as well happen at heavy. I was just talking about Vitali fights.

by El Destruyo on Sep 10, 2011 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

No. Fury isn’t anywhere near ready. Fury’s prime will be after both Klits have retired.

True. And a rec from me.

vit should have finished the fight in the 2nd.

kinda why i can’t stand to watch the klit bros fight.

see sonny liston vs floyd patterson 1 and 2 to see what a great big man should do to a great little man.

Doesn’t 10 1/2 mean it has to make it to the bell of round 11? Meaning it has to go longer then 10 rounds?

by DodgerFan86 on Sep 10, 2011 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions

not for the Bad Left Hook Pick em game, at least I think that's how it works.

10 1/2 means it has to go past 90 seconds into the 10th rd.

by Matt Mosley on Sep 10, 2011 6:23 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah I don't know about that...

Over 10 1/2 rounds seems like it has to go past halfway in the 11th round, ie 10 full rounds and half of another one. Annoyed by my call on the under with the Gamboa fight – virtually everyone else went over! Bad change there late by you ;)

I know. :)
I am gonna stick with my original pick from now on.
What you say about the 10 1/2 rds sounds right to me, over 1/2 rd into the 11th.
Can get a bit confusing, for me anyway. :)

by Matt Mosley on Sep 11, 2011 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions

That seems problematic if a knock out were to happen right at the 90 second mark. I thought 1/2 in gambling always meant it has to go over the preceding whole number. Just like there is no half points in football there are no half rounds in boxing.

I rewatched Ortiz-Berto last night

I’d forgotten just how thoroughly Ortiz dominated most of that fight.

by Verklemptomaniac on Sep 10, 2011 5:59 PM EDT reply actions

I’ve got to be honest and say here, i don’t think Ortiz did dominate.
I had him winning by two rds and i think Berto showed a lot of heart.
I also thought quite a lot of the rds were clsoe.

Vitali interview with Adam Smith. What a top man and a true gent. Plus, I like him all the more for saying he wants to KO Haye.

by Phill on Sep 10, 2011 6:13 PM EDT reply actions

Nothing really new here except great extravaganza put on in the Polish stadium in Wroclaw and the amount of punishment Tomasz Adamek (44-2) took before the fight was mercifully stopped by capable Italian referee Massimo Barrovecchio in the 10th stanza.

It was another systematic beat down byVitali "Ironfist" Klitschko (43-2) who lived up to his aptly named moniker. Adamek had no answers whatsoever. It was simply a case of a great big man beating up on a good smaller man. In fact, after one minute into the first round, the blue print for the rest of the fight was manifest. Fighting extremely focused (as he always does) and fighting tall (as he always does), Vitali kept Adamek at a safe distance while delivering crunching jabs and face-busting rights that had the brave Pole’s face bruised and bleeding. The big doctor won every round ( as he always does) and had "Goral" down twice (once officially).

The fight was so one-sided, the HBO team had to reach to fill in some narrative and some of it, mostly by Kellerman, was frankly boring.

The most intriguing question arising from this mismatch is where does Vitali go from here? Robert Helenius? David Haye? Alexander Ustinov? Tyson Fury? As for Adamek, he will come back to Newark and earn some good paydays duking with other heavyweights. Maybe he can fight his way back into the top mix and for his "reward" get a bout with Wladimir.

Make no mistake. What we boxing fans are witnessing here is a once in a lifetime phenomena of two very big, very smart, and very athletic brothers who continue to decimate the heavyweight division
