Prizefighter Junior Middleweights: Live Results and Round-by-Round Coverage
The first Prizefighter tournament of the new boxing season on Sky Sports comes your way today at 3 p.m. EDT, and Bad Left Hook will be here with live, round-by-round coverage of the tournament.
Today will mark the first time that the tournament has had a live drawing for the first round matchups, and Carl Froch and Jamie Moore will be the stars pulling the names and setting up the fights. Here are your eight junior middleweight competitors for today's tournament:
- Kris Agyei-Dua (3-0, 0 KO)
- JJ Bird (6-5-2, 0 KO)
- Wayne Goddard (9-0, 2 KO)
- Steve Harkin (5-1-2, 1 KO)
- Nick Quigley (7-0, 0 KO)
- Mehrdud Takaloo (26-7, 17 KO)
- Jeff Thomas (9-6-2, 1 KO)
- Peter Vaughan (3-0-1, 1 KO)
For star power, this one is very low, but these eight guys could use the money that comes with winning Prizefighter, and the notoriety wouldn't hurt, either. It's hard to have a Prizefighter tournament that doesn't entertain with the format. We might have another Rocky Fielding in this one. Join us this afternoon!

Takaloo vs Lloyd-Taylor Round 1

Well fun start, as they’re both fighting to get it underway. RLT trying to use distance. Both in constant motion. Takaloo throwing wide left hooks. Taylor working his jab, Takaloo throws his a bit. Neither has the best jab.
10-10 – thought it was a true even round
Mick Williamson working Taylor’s corner on assignment.

Takaloo vs Lloyd-Taylor Round 2

Right hand by Taylor. Takaloo trying to do some sneaky thangs but without much success. Now Takaloo gets inside and targets the body, but eats a right hand, and then eats a better one. And a tackle! Taylor starting to take control of this fight. Not pretty, but he’s landing the cleaner shots for sure. Right hand by Takaloo after he gets some loose tape fixed. Then a left hook. And a right to the body. Takaloo making a late round charge.
Lloyd-Taylor 10-9
Lloyd Taylor 20-19

Takaloo vs Lloyd-Taylor Round 3

Taylor is fighting this round like he needs it, too, which is good. And when he puts together punches, Takaloo has no real answer. Uppercut inside by Taylor. Takaloo gets inside but lands nothing there, really. He’s throwing but there’s nothing on his shots. Taylor with a right after a sloppy right misses from Takaloo.
Lloyd-Taylor 10-9

Goddard vs Vaughan Round 1

Goddard with good shots, but Vaughan landing hard ones in return. Vaughan just coming right at Goddard. Vaughan being compared to Juan Diaz by the Sky team, and while he doesn’t look or really punch like Diaz, he seems to have a similar attitude about charging straight ahead. Goddard to the body. Boy, Vaughan just will not step back. And he has terrible defense. Lots of action in the first round, but not pretty. I favor Goddard just a bit.
Goddard 10-9
Bad Left Hook
"To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day..."
Goddard vs Vaughan Round 2

Sloppy, sloppy first half of this round. Vaughan still going … well, not 100 mph, but a good 80. Goddard continues to land better shots, but not throwing as much this round. Goddard getting worn out badly by Vaughan this round. Heads clash pretty hard, but they don’t even take a moment.
Vaughan 10-9

Goddard vs Vaughan Round 3

Vaughan tearing into Goddard with reckless abandon, but not landing clean. Goddard giving what he’s got left to the body, then a chopping, almost slapping right hand. Goddard is fighting his ass off. Vaughan has no idea how to set up shots. He’s just swinging for the fences and mostly missing badly. Goddard with an uppercut, and a good one. I admire Vaughan’s spirit, but I don’t think I’m being overly harsh when I say he’s sort of awful. I mean he’s just fighting. He’s not boxing at all really. Goddard picking away, but Vaughan is just WINGING and he’s starting to get to Goddard in the final minute! Vaughan throwing EVERYTHING he’s got trying to floor the exhausted Goddard. Goddard survives.
Goddard 10-9
Goddard 29-28
Honestly, I know Vaughan threw an incredible amount of pressure there, but I still think he lost the round.

Agyei-Dua vs Thomas Round 1

Agyei-Dua putting his shots together nicely against the guy who got here via Twitter. Agyei-Dua has Ricky Hatton trunks. Boy, he’s really showing some nice offensive combinations. Thomas looks overmatched a little bit. He looks tiny compared to Agyei-Dua and Woodhall notes that he’s fought at feather OH SHIT! THOMAS DROPS AGYEI-DUA WITH A LEFT HOOK COUNTER! Hot damn!
Agyei-Dua up quickly, but he’s not in great shape. Thomas throwing hard lefts. Thomas finishing the round very well, too.
Thomas 10-8

Agyei-Dua vs Thomas Round 2

Agyei-Dua outboxing Thomas again to start this round. Good uppercut by Agyei-Dua. Right hand counter by Agyei-Dua. Thomas rocked hard but stays up! Another good fight, best of the night so far. Left hook to the body by Agyei-Dua. Another good left hook upstairs. He’s putting it on Thomas this round. Thomas is tiring and getting beaten up this round. Thomas being popped with good shots. Thomas might not be able to hang on to his 2-point lead at this rate.

Agyei-Dua vs Thomas Round 3

Agyei-Dua boxing, right hand from Thomas. Thomas has to stay up this round, and does need to win the round. Good counter hook from Agyei-Dua staggers Thomas! Man, Thomas is tougher than a $2 steak. This is a great little fight. Agyei-Dua totally in control, putting combinations together, popping Thomas at will. He could really use a knockdown. BIG right stings Thomas! Thomas fighting back with a right and a left hand. Agyei-Dua pouring it on again.

Harkin vs Quigley Round 1

Quigley starting a bit better. Harkin looks a bit slow for him. Quigley with a sneaky, nice uppercut with the left hand from good distance. Quigley looks very relaxed, very focused. Quigley just doing good work in the round. Nothing amazing, but clearly winning the fight.
Quigley 10-9
I know it’s just the one round, but given the pace of the earlier fights, Quigley looks like a good bet to go all the way after that cool, confident round.
Bad Left Hook
"To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day..."
Harkin vs Quigley Round 2

Quigley too clever, too talented for Harkin, whose jab is slow and he just can’t get it established at all despite trying. Harkin trying to pressure, but Quigley easily ties him up and resets him. Good body shot, then a wild left hook scrapes Harkin. Quigley just a better fighter. This has looked like the biggest mismatch of the night thus far. Body shot by Quigley. Harkin does better this round, but not good enough.

Harkin vs Quigley Round 3

Quigley tiring just a bit, and Harkin making him earn this one, at least in terms of gas tank. Sloppy third round. Quigley just sort of surviving and trying to keep the action light. Still, when he has to, he’s out-fighting Harkin anyway. Quigley ends the round with a body shot, then slips during an exchange.

Lloyd-Taylor vs Vaughan Round 1

Taylor working jab, trying to establish distance. Vaughan doing what he did in the first fight. Vaughan with body shots. Taylor continues to jab, then lands a little uppercut and a body shot left hook. Vaughan with a lot of activity, buuut…
Lloyd-Taylor 10-9
I like pressure fighters, but Vaughan doesn’t land enough quality for me.
Bad Left Hook
"To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day..."
Lloyd-Taylor vs Vaughan Round 2

Now Vaughan is pressuring more effectively, and sends Taylor tumbling to the mat. Taylor jabbing a lot, but just pecking at him now. But Vaughan now looking tired again, too. Taylor slips a second time. Body shot by Vaughan. It’d be nice if he landed them more frequently. Great uppercut from Taylor! And another one! Boy, fight more like that. Vaughan stings him with a shot to the temple. Vaughan with a stiff jab. Digging away to the body now. Another uppercut from Taylor. This is a damn fun round. Both throwing, both missing now at center ring. They’re right on each other.

Vaughan continuing to dig away, Taylor continuing to DOWN GOES VAUGHAN ON A RIGHT HAND! BIG KNOCKDOWN FOR ROBERT LLOYD-TAYLOR! WHAT A TURN OF EVENTS!
Vaughan has 1:10 left to get himself in here. Vaughan just tright forward, and throwing EVERYTHING WITH POWER NOW! Taylor on his back foot. Taylor’s uppercuts still landing. Another uppercut. Another one AND THE REFEREE STEPS IN?! OH I DON’T THINK HE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED THAT AT ALL.
Robert Lloyd-Taylor TKO-3
Oh boy. I think that was a bad call. Yes he was getting hit, but he was fighting still. Not in any serious danger.

Quigley vs Agyei-Dua Round 1

Agyei-Dua starting quickly with his combinations again. Stiff right from Quigley, but he has, like, no power. Both are open defensively. Agyei-Dua especially so. Quigley with a nice flurry late in the round, and shakes Agyei-Dua with a left hand. Quigley really closing this round strong and and taking control. HARD right hand by Quigley catches Agyei-Dua wide open! Agyei-Dua has real offensive ability, puts it together nicely, but his defense is rotten.

Quigley vs Agyei-Dua Round 2

Hot damn Quigley is all over Agyei-Dua. WHAT THE FUCK DID IAN JOHN-LEWIS JUST DO? He went in to stop it, changed his mind, and put his arms out like, “Hey guys, why are you looking at me?” FUCK, how does this imbecile get work? He might be the worst goddamn referee in boxing, and he’s a horrible judge to boot. Jesus Christ. The BBBofC has time to strip Ricky Hatton of a license because he snorted some cocaine after he was functionally retired, but this dingus keeps getting paid to do this garbage?
On the other hand, this is a good fight, and Quigley is just a bit better than Agyei-Dua, who has lots of guts. If Quigley had power this one would probably be over. NOW THEY JUST FIGHT! NOW THEY JUST FIGHT! WOO!

Wow, this is a brawl. A pure brawl. Both guys coming forward and throwing. Agyei-Dua starting this round hot. Quigly battering Agyei-Dua now with about 1:15 left. Agyei-Dua hurting and not on good legs. Quigley going for the stoppage. Another shot stings Agyei-Dua. He’s staying up though. OH WHAT A FIGHT! QUIGLEY RIPPING AWAY AT AGYEI-DUA! Can’t put him down. That lack of power is going to kill Quigley’s potential, but he’s fun to watch.

Quigley vs Lloyd-Taylor Round 1

Quigley is marked up, looks worse for wear going into the fight. Right hand by Quigley. Taylor jabbing. You know, it would be very wise of Taylor to press Quigley. I think letting Quigley keep a light pace is letting him off the hook. Uppercut from Taylor. Quigley with a combination, largely blocked. Slow start to this one, really.

Quigley vs Lloyd-Taylor Round 2

Quigley coming out faster this round. Taylor misses a left hook from downtown. Taylor with a right, then another one. Body shot in. Quigley has nothing left. Hard body shot by Taylor, and then another one gets in. Taylor totally taking over. Left hook upstairs. Quigley just can’t really get going here. He’s dunzo.
Body work by Taylor is great stuff. Quigley doing all he can here to fight back, but no zip. No zest. No zeal. Flat-footed and tired. Quigley loses his mouthpiece. Terry O’Connor telling anyone to hurry up doing anything is kind of hilarous.
Left hook, right hand by Taylor. Quigley with a right hand back. Taylor slipping shots nicely, too.

Quigley trying, but nothing left. Taylor jabbing and kind of coasting a bit, makes me fearful of him losing on the cards when he really shouldn’t. Quigley pushes Taylor back with a left, more balance than anything. Taylor getting pressured here by Quigley as we head into the final minute. Taylor with sneaky little shots in counter.
