Sergio Martinez vs Darren Barker: Official Poster from HBO

Here's the official HBO poster for their next fight, when middleweight world champion Sergio Martinez defends against Darren Barker on World Championship Boxing. There's also a co-feature rematch between Andy Lee and the only man to beat him as a professional, Brian Vera.

I'm in the minority that likes this fight just fine (or at least it feels like the minority), and I'm looking forward to Lee vs Vera II. They tore it up the first time, and both are flawed fighters who aren't afraid of a brawl. I do expect Martinez to dominate, honestly, and probably stop Barker, who is inconsistent and tends to fade in fights, but Barker's a top ten guy and there just aren't many fighters at 160 who are going to fight Sergio. Barker's willing, so he gets the fight. There's not much more he can do anyway, having already been European champion. This is his all or nothing chance, and he's facing the legit champ.

Martinez is the sort of guy that I just like to watch fight. Him, Manny, Donaire, I just want to see them in action. Preferable against good comp, but Martinez is fun against whoever.

I completely agree with the Twillness

When is Martinez not in an entertaining fight. Seriously. I can’t recall the last time.

Good honest post, Scott.

I would like to see Martinez clean up the middleweight division. If Proksa gets by Sylvester impressively, Proksa v. Martinez could be good or if Pirog becomes relevant again, that would be good. Sturm is the fight to make for sure, but I’m not convinced Sturm really wants it. Maybe Dibella’s plan by signing Macklin is to have Macklin face Martinez next since Macklin gave Sturm such a tough go of it. If Martinez can beat Macklin more convincingly, that makes the Sturm might more interesting possibly.
