Arturo Gatti's Last Fight from 48 Hours Mystery (Full Episode Video)

For those who missed it last night on CBS, Arturo Gatti's controversial death was the subject of 48 Hours Mystery. Here's the full episode. I will warn you that there are photos of the crime scene, so if that sort of thing upsets you, you might want to avoid watching.

The episode has interviews and comments with Gatti's widow Amanda Rodrigues, former foe and trainer Micky Ward, and more, including experts on the case and family.

I don't have any idea what happened with Arturo Gatti. I know Brazilian authorities ruled a suicide. I know investigators believe he was murdered. I know it's a tragedy either way that he's gone.

I will say this one time: Keep the comments civil and clean. If you don't, you'll be banned. You can discuss this, but don't go overboard with inflammatory comments and things of that nature.

I do highly recommend watching the show. Personally, I just don't feel qualified to make some "decision" on what happened to Arturo Gatti. I miss him as a fighter and a personality in boxing. He was a fighter who will never, ever be forgotten.

Here's a bit extra from Ward, too:

Thanks Scott for the upload.

One of the most interesting statements I heard was at @ 28:18: "The Gatti’s were willing to split the assests with Amenda". If they were so certain that she killed Arturo, why would they even be willing to split the assets in half? When she said no on the split, THEN the family hired these investigators.

Gatti was a true warrior in the ring, but had many demons outside the ropes. It will be very hard to convict this woman beyond a reasonable doubt. A good defense lawyer will easily put doubts in jurors minds. I don’t think we’ll ever know with 100% certainty what happened that night.

No. I don’t know what really happened, but I don’t believe one word she’s saying.. Patently insincere. Not a quaver, not a tear, never stops smiling.

She really does come across as really insincere and I know a few people that have her same mannerisms and they are all very facetious. That doesn’t mean that because she reminds me of them that she is guilty but it definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth on top of the fact that it seems like it truly doesn’t matter to her that he’s gone and those texts she sent to him were freakin’ garbage. How can you talk like that to your alleged “love of your life?”

GATTI

I don’t believe it was necessary to show crime scene photos. ABSOLUTELY REPREHENSIBLE, CBS

She will never, ever be tried in the US, nor should she. This happened in Brazil and it was

ruled a suicide. Arturo was humiliated by the crowd after he had slapped Amanda around. As I have stated before, when a macho man experiences that, it can be devastating. Plus his past record (non verified) of hreatening self destruction seems to lend pluasibility to this.

I just find it difficult to see how a diminutive (albeit attractive) female can somehow hang a 3-time world boxing champion.

She's being tried in Canada, wrongful death suit I believe. That they can do.

Doesn’t have to be in Brazil. Not able to know what really happened, wasn’t there—but as to how she could have done it?— by getting family, she has brothers/male cousins as I understand it, to either help, or just do it for her. Or he slapped their sister around and they just did it. I do not trust Brazil for the truth any more than I trust her. But no, she’s not going to be tried for murder here, this relates to the wrongful death suit, which is a civil suit in Canada, and experts can come from anywhere. Wrongful death suits have a far lower bar for guilt/responsibility, you can lose a wrongful death suit without being found guilty of murder/manslaughter.

But in the show it was stated that surveillance video saw nobody entering the building during the time of his death. So it seems it comes down to either she did it, or suicide.

I don’t know what happened. I do know she’s insincere, which doesn’t make her a murderer necessarily. There are usually a number of ways to avoid being recorded by surveillance cameras. Anything could be true. I’m certain she’s lying, but she could be lying and still not be guilty of murder. She does state that she saw him on the floor and left him there, only 2 hours later seeing him there again and then going to him. It’s kind of strange to me to leave someone lying, uncovered and unattended, on a floor, even when you’ve been fighting and are angry. I’ve seen some strange scenes, and don’t remember any where someone would be lying on a floor once they were seen there—sometimes everybody’s passed out, so no one is sees anything, that’s one thing. But to see someone on a floor and not go to them seems strange, and in view of he’s dead, possibly actionable on its own account i. e., had she one to him sooner, might he have been still alive and resuscitatable.

But anything could be true.

No doubt she can lie about things. The denial about being a former stripper was laughable. But everybody has things in the past they don’t like to admit.

I’m not saying she didn’t do it; I don’t know. But one thing the show made clear: When Gatti was drunk, he was a different person an did some irrational acts. That night he could have taken it one step further.

It’s a touchy subject and I hesitate to even approach it, and am not saying it to change anyone’s mind or whatever, but I can’t go along with the idea that he just couldn’t have committed suicide. Suicide is a terrible thing that does a lot more damage than just ending one life, and while I can certainly understand his friends and loved ones not wanting to believe it happened, and putting up a wall that tells them it couldn’t have, Arturo was pretty obviously a troubled man. I don’t know what happened to him or what caused his death, but I honestly, from my heart, just don’t feel like it’s some impossibility that he took his own life.

I hope somehow the truth is found so that the people really involved here have some closure, but it’s certainly not going to come easy. That might actually be impossible.

Is there proof of this, or any history of proven lies with these investigators? They were paid to conduct the investigation. Similar, in a way, to hiring a surveyor. Just because you pay your own surveyor doesn’t mean they’ll tell you what you want to hear, I’ve seen that happen twice.

I think that it’s important to remember that this is a television show. It’s very dramatic, and well done, but rehashes what we already know.
