Cotto vs Margarito Undercard: Pawel Wolak vs Delvin Rodriguez Rematch Is Close
With a title shot at Cornelius Bundrage not likely, it looks as though boxing fans will get what they want after all, as Pawel Wolak is close to a deal to rematch Delvin Rodriguez on the Cotto vs Margarito undercard on December 3, according to Ryan Burton.
If this lands, and Burton says it's "99% complete," then we're talking about a pay-per-view that has slugfest written all over it from top-to-bottom. Give this card a look and tell me where there isn't action:
Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito II
Brandon Rios vs TBA (possibly John Molina)
Pawel Wolak vs Delvin Rodriguez II
Mike Jones vs Sebastian Lujan
Wolak vs Rodriguez was a brilliant, breathtaking Fight of the Year contender on July 15's Friday Night Fights. Demand for a rematch after the 10-round draw was high immediately, and the target date was, indeed, the Cotto vs Margarito card at Madison Square Garden. You can't blame Wolak (29-1-1, 19 KO) for trying to land a title shot -- fighters like him might not run into very many of them in their careers.
But with one off the table, it looks like the rematch fight fans desire will be in the cards. Rodriguez (25-5-3, 14 KO) deserves the rematch, deserves the payday, and deserves the spotlight of the big show. They both do, on all counts.
Cross your fingers, because this pay-per-view is shaping up to be can't-miss.

I already have my tickets!!!
Cotto’s Puerto Rican fans + Margarito’s & Rios’ Mexican fans + Wolak’s Polish fans = one hell of a fight crowd at MSG on December 3rd.

I really expect the MSG atmosphere to be truly batshit.

Long time reader, first time poster. SC love the site.
Just wanted to say, as much as I hate competing cards, doesn’t it seem like if it weren’t for Agbeko-Mares II, there’d be no way TR would’ve put together this good of an undercard?
Well they were always planning to have Jones-Lujan and Wolak on the card, but Rios definitely got bumped to this one due to GBP scheduling that card, as Rios was going to fight 12/10 on SHO. I think they really pissed Arum off for real.

I shouldn’t say “GBP scheduling that card” — Showtime offered that date and they kind of had to take it. I still think everyone should have just moved it to January, but that’s another story.

Good for both of them. Considering how great that fight was, and how much punishment they both took, they deserve a good payday and the exposure this will bring.
Also, kudos to Top Rank for recognizing that the main event was one a lot of hardcore boxing fans were ambivalent about, and giving us a reason to want to watch the PPV.
