Eddie Chambers Pulls Out of NBC Sports Premiere With Fractured Ribs
The Main Events series on NBC Sports is not off to an encouraging start. The company sent out a press release tonight with the news that Eddie Chambers is out of the premiere episode's main event next Saturday night from Philadelphia, having suffered fractured ribs in training.
Chambers (36-2, 18 KO) was to face Sergei Liakhovich (25-4, 16 KO) in the 10-round heavyweight main event next weekend, with junior middleweights Gabriel Rosado and Jesus Soto Karass in the co-feature.
The show is still on, but it's not yet known how it will work out. Rosado vs Soto Karass could potentially be bumped to the main event if an opponent can't be found for Liakhovich, and it's not going to be easy to find anyone good on eight days' notice.
If the heavyweight fight were canceled, the most likely bumps to the televised card would be Joel Julio (37-4, 31 KO) vs Christopher Fernandez (19-14-1, 12 KO); or Philly fighter Ray Robinson (12-2, 5 KO) vs Doel Carrasquillo (16-18-1, 14 KO). Both are eight-round welterweight fights.
This is the second straight scheduled fight that Chambers has pulled out of, following his canceled October 2011 date with Tony Thompson.

Ugh. Shame, since this was a really attractive card. I’m almost rather they pull the date and cancel the show.
Getting a little sick of Chambers never being able to perform too.
All their dates are locked in. Jan. 21, Mar. 24, June 16, December 8

Ugh. Isn’t there someone in the heavyweight division that can step up on late notice? Its not like they have to weigh in. Michael Grant, Monte Barrett, somebody.

Barrett’s booked for another Tua fight. Grant could step in, I guess. Either way they’re not getting a meaningful fight at all now.

Chambers is the best pure U.S. fighter in the heavyweight division. This is a setback
for him and us. I’ve been following hime ever since the first Derrick Rossy fight which I attended. I was so impressed, I wrote about him in a chapter of one of my books titled “The Cuties.”

I still think he 100% beat himself against Povetkin. That was such a maddening fight. Chambers absolutely should have won. Absolutely. He was better but just gave it away. I am totally convinced of that and have been since that night.
