3. Mayweather-Ortiz.

I’m with Eddie Gonzalez. The Mayweather fight had me yelling and screaming, and for once I was yelling in support of Floyd.

I still love the Mayweather KO for karma and hilarity’s sake. Ortiz got what he deserved and probably learned a valuable lesson.

1. Donaire-Montiel: The “holy shit” moment of the year…….one of the best counter shots I’ve seen.
2.Lebedev-Jones: Jones is completely shot, but it was a brutal KO
3. Holt-Diaz

Takashi Uchiyama knockout of Solis was more brutal then Ioka’s knockout.

Holy crap

I hadn’t seen that one. I have to amend my list.

If this goes well

I’ll try to do the same thing for round of the year and prospect of the year next weekend.

1. Donaire-Montiel: Big fight, huge knockout. Easily the biggest “Oh Shit!” of the year from me.
2. Afolabi-Dunstan: Anytime you see the mouthpiece fly out to go along with the knockout, it’s a brutal plus.
3. Russell Jr.-Ruiz: I’ve got a soft spot for Mr. Russell, and it was a pretty sweet KO.

Kendall Holt was a close 4th for me because I saw it live, and even though it’s not mentioned, Broner-Litzau was a pretty sweet KO as well.

No doubt the upset of the year.

Kirkland was probably the most shocking KO of the year behind Donaire-Montiel…….meaning nobody saw it coming.

both a huge upset and a spectacular KO.

Ioka-Chalermchai argghh. Last second pick after I already had ppicked Grant over Botha.

Grant-Botha—a lot was riding on this one for Grant and he pulled it out with just seconds to go.

1) Donaire- Montiel (everyone else has said enough on this one)
2) Ramos-Shimoda (contextual, although it’s not a close #2)
3) Ioka-Chalermchai (someone just sent this to me earlier today; it could be #2 if I had more time to process it)
4) Uchiyama-Solis (emPHATic)

Last) Mayweather-Ortiz (let’s not kid ourselves into acting like this happened under normal circumstances)

1. Mayweather-Ortiz. A very special and highly deserved SPKO
2. Huck – Rossi. A very clear, devastating, definite blow.
3. Donaire – Montiel. What a lovely hook.

1. Donaire – Montiel … Let’s not forget that this wasn’t just anybody getting knocked out.

2. Uchiyama-Solis … Again, it’s not the same when you knock out Heriberto Ruiz as when you knock out a Ring-rated true contender like Jorge Solis

3. Holt – Diaz

Honourable mentions, for sheer entertainment value: Bute – Mendy , Gary Russell Jr.-Heriberto Ruiz and Afolabi – Dunstan
As for Huck-Rossi mentioned by DrHenrik above, that knockout was too sick to be entertaining. I was genuinely afraid Huck had killed Rossi, I have no desire to see that punch again anytime soon.

by Radu on Jan 4, 2012 4:21 AM EST reply actions

You’re right, the time between Rossi not moving after the count and him sitting up again was rather unpleasant. But well, he recovered. Don’t know why, but the Lebedev-Jones- KO was much more frightening to me. And Montiel looked quite scary for some moments after the blow as well..

It was a devastating hook but Montiel got up so its more like tko of the year
Also that’s it for Solis after watching that ko i think his days as a top fighter are over

Uhh just a correction. It was not David but Julio whom Kendall Holt fought.

But Davis took a bad one against Manny a few years back, so you get 1.4 point.

Deontay Wilder/ David Long.

I saw this one up close and personal. I walked away thinking it was more devastating than Gary Russell Jr.’s KO on the same night. Probably because I know David Long and saw his face when the blow was struck. I thought he had a stroke.
