Ramos vs Rigondeaux: Live Results and Round-By-Round Coverage

Rico Ramos faces Guillermo Rigondeaux in the main event of tonight's ShoBox broadcast. (Photo by Tom Casino/Showtime)

Tonight at 11 p.m. EST on Showtime, Rico Ramos will defend his WBA super bantamweight title in the main event of a ShoBox triple-header from the Palms in Las Vegas. We'll be here with round-by-round coverage and live results of the full card.

Ramos (20-0, 11 KO) and Rigondeaux (8-0, 6 KO) may not be a big-time marquee fight, but it's a significant fight at 122 pounds at any rate, and the winner will have a good argument for being the firm and clear No. 2 in the division, slotting in behind Toshiaki Nishioka of Japan.

In the first undercard bout of the night, super flyweights Matthew Villanueva (6-0-1, 6 KO) and Michael Ruiz Jr (8-1-1, 3 KO) will go to work in an eight-round fight. The sandwich bout is also an eight-rounder, pitting intriguing 19-year-old prospect Joel Diaz (6-0, 5 KO) against Guy Robb (7-0, 3 KO) in a super featherweight bout.

Join us this evening!

Villanueva vs Ruiz Round 1

Villanueva the guy moving forward. Ruiz, as Farhood says, is a cute. Villanueva with a good left hook, and another one with about 45 seconds left in the round. Ruiz is doing a good job avoiding punches. Ruiz slipping punches very nicely, but not landing a whole lot. Fight picked up in the latter half of the round.

Villanueva vs Ruiz Round 2

Villanueva starting with some big charges this round. Good shots with both hands. Ward offers the incredible insight, “You can see that Villanueva’s hands are heavy. Maybe that’s where the knockouts come from.” Perhaps, yes!

Ruiz is getting tagged in there this round. BIG rights! REALLY clean one shakes the hell out of Ruiz, and he’s desperately hanging on. A minute to go in the round and Ruiz is in a bad way. Left hook to the body from Villanueva. Another right hand. And another! And down goes Michael Ruiz!

He’s getting creamed now. He can’t hold Villanueva off, and Villanueva appears to have the quicker as well as heavier hands. Ruiz is lost. Another right when we come back. Ruiz trying his best to stay out of there, but he’s not going to last a lot longer if this keeps up. Escapes the round, but that’s about all he does.

Left hook from Villanueva. Ruiz trying to counter, but Villanueva clearly has no regard for his power or anything. Ruiz landing more this round. Doing better. Villanueva not going out of his way to be stupid or anything, either. Nice to see.

Villanueva with a right hand. Villanueva imposing his will again in the final minute, and he’s landing some good body shots there too.

Villanueva vs Ruiz Round 4

Villanueva has this fully under control. Ruiz is really looking for a way to get into this fight, but he’s having an awful time with the matchup. Villanueva too big, too strong, and a good offensive boxer overall, too. Not just brute strength. Puts punches together well, doesn’t get overly reckless. Willing to counter as well as lead.

Ruiz is hanging in there. Decent fight.

Ruiz landing a few but Villanueva still mostly controlling. Villanueva does leave himself open when he throws in combination, and I mean really leaves himself open. Diaz really has a lot of talent. Very much looking forward to see what happens here. Robb isn’t a total pushover by any means.

Diaz with a right. Robb trying to work in cautiously from outside. Heads come together, but they go through it. Right hand from Diaz. Robb trying to get to the body, and boy, he’s showing his superior ability early. Robb might have to just go for broke.

Well, they’re fighting. Diaz with a left hook and a right hand. He looks quicker and stronger. Man, for a 19-year-old kid, Diaz has some huge arms for 130ish pounds. Looks like he’ll develop into a big, strong lightweight or 140.

HUGE right from Diaz hurts Robb badly! Robb retreating! Diaz laying it on now! Drakulich getting close — Robb slips to the mat. They’re calling it a knockdown. Goddamn it. It wasn’t as far as I could tell.

Diaz vs Robb Round 4

GUY ROBB COMING OUT FAST! I expected Diaz to come out! Robb with two big left hooks! He’s got Diaz on the ropes, and now they’re broken up. Man Robb is pressing him big time to start this round. Robb with body work. Robb putting him on the ropes constantly. Big hook from Diaz off the ropes!

Robb with a nasty shot to the body. Diaz is tiring a bit. He’s had all of 10 rounds before this fight. Right hand Robb. Right hand Diaz, and he storms with a combo! Right hand Diaz stings him! Both bloodied. Robb with a left hand! Diaz with a right!

Holy shit this fight rules.

Left hook Diaz but Robb is POURING IT ON with the body shots and left hooks of his own. Diaz is reeling a little bit. He’s really tired. He might still have enough power to close this thing at some point, but right now Guy Robb looks stronger.

Robb willing this round like he did the last. Sneaky right from Diaz catches Robb. Nick this round to Robb, but could have gone to Diaz. Just feel like Robb’s pressure pushes him.

BIG RIGHT HAND BY GUY ROBB AS THE ROUND STARTS! They’re winging again! They are just drilling each other now. Diaz landing hard shots, but Robb starting to absorb them much better than earlier. Diaz’s power has faded.

Left hook from Robb. Diaz with a left hook moments later. Robb is dictating this fight right now. Right hand Diaz. Fight has slowed down a bit this round. still a good round.

Rigondeaux coming out faster than expected, throwing a wild left hand. He looks locked in mentally. Right hand Ramos is a bit short, and he eats a left hand counter down the pipe. That was lightning coming back.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but Ramos looks a little intimidated to my eye.

Ramos not doing much of anything. Rigondeaux isn’t either, to be fair, but what he’s throwing looks more harmful and serious. Left hand by Rigondeauxl and another AND RICO RAMOS IS DOWN! 30 seconds left in the round. Cortez waits forever to get Rigondeaux to move two feet.

Rigondeaux coming at him again, just WINGING LEFT HANDS! Rigondeaux absolutely giong for the kill.
