Nonito Donaire Would Fight Abner Mares at 122 Pounds in Fantasy World

Nonito Donaire is keeping himself in the news quite a bit, but he's saying absolutely nothing about his February 4 fight with Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
Now, I have no clue if this is more because he's not being asked about it than he's "looking past it," but after spending too much time talking about Guillermo Rigondeaux and why he definitely won't fight him, Donaire is back with a thought on another fighter: IBF bantamweight titlist Abner Mares.
From Ryan Burton at BoxingScene.com:
"Mares isn't on my list but you can put him in there. I want to fight anyone that will give a good exciting fight. He is a good fighter and would put on a good fight. If the promoters can get together and make the fight then do it."
The hitch here is, obviously, that the promoters can't get together and make the fight, so it's all an empty acceptance anyway.
Not that I think Donaire would "duck" Mares -- I'm sure he'd gladly fight Abner, and boxing fans would love to see it, but Mares is promoted by Golden Boy and Donaire by Top Rank, so it's not going to happen. That's why it couldn't happen at 118, that's why it can't happen at 122, where Donaire says he'd take the fight now. In theory, I mean.
But seriously, isn't anyone gonna ask him about Vazquez? I mean, I know I said that's how big an underdog Vazquez is, and that's true, but jeez.

I’d love it if Vazquez won. He’s not an awful fighter and Donaire is one of the most inconsistent and disinterested fighters at times.
Still searching for an alive Dan Tucker.
He’s more than not awful – I really think WV2 is a good fighter. Perhaps a bit more arrogant than necessary, though, and I don’t think he has much chance with Donaire unless Donaire really doesn’t give a crap.

Donaire not giving a crap is still really really good. Donaire not giving a crap still beat the hell out of Herman Marquez.

Hernan Marquez was a pathetic matchup for Donaire. Wild swinging brawlers have no hope against Donaire. Ask Darchinyan. Ask Arce in about seven months when we’ve seen the demolition job.

Hernan Marquez is a better fighter than just a wild swinging brawler – it was a pathetic match-up for other reasons, really. Namely, he was grossly undersized fighting above his best weight class.

What about Anselmo Moreno, Donaire never fought him before moving up either. He could probably kick Nonitos ass. Thats the fight i wanted to see.
Moreno is boring. He might have the ability to make Nonito look bad. That’s not for the fans. It might DESTROY BOXING AS WE KNOW IT.

Donaire better be focused on Vasquez. The dude is no joke, and was considered one of boxing’s rising young fighters before the Arce upset.
Donaire could be facing a desperate fighter, and those can be dangerous fights.
Eh
He had a couple good fights, and has a fan base, but he was even a pretty decent underdog to beat Marvin Sonsona.
