Celestino Caballero Bashes Takashi Uchiyama, Eyes WBC Title

Takashi Uchiyama's performance against Jorge Solis didn't impress Celestino Caballero.

Celestino Caballero is coming off a dominant performance against Satoshi Hosono and is looking to get his hands on more belts.

After finishing up his bout, it seems that Caballero got a chance to see the Takashi Uchiyama - Jorge Solis fight. Uchiyama was able to KO Solis in the 11th round, but that did not impress Celestino Caballero according to Jhonny Gonzalez of Boxing Scene. Caballero also commented about other possible upcoming fights for himself.

"First I would like to unify the title against the WBC champion. I want to become the first Panamanian champion to unify titles in two different divisions. Then we are going to consider going up to another division. Solis is a fighter who's career I followed, but I wasn't impressed with Uchiyama's fight. I'm a very different fighter [compared to Solis]."

Caballero is the "regular" WBA featherweight champion and Uchiyama is the WBA super featherweight champion. Therefore, this might be Caballero trying to get a fight down the road with Uchiyama. I think that I would say that Caballero is back in the mix at featherweight after his losses to both Jonathan Barros and Jason Litzau.

Star-divide

He is still a tall and powerful fighter at featherweight with not a huge fan base. This is a recipe for getting avoided by the top fighters yet again. There is no chance in hell that Top Rank is going to take a chance and go after Caballero with either Juan Manuel Lopez or Yuriorkis Gamboa. Caballero presents too much risk without much of an upside so why even risk it when you can get Gamboa - Solis on HBO. It seems that Caballero finally understands that point and he doesn't even mention these big money fights.

Moving on to more plausible fights, the WBC featherweight champion is Jhonny Gonzalez but he is most likely to have an upcoming fight against champion in recess Elio Rojas. Gonzalez against Caballero would be an interesting fight with Gonzalez coming off a good year including a KO victory over Hozumi Hasegawa assuming that he can get past Elio Rojas. I like this fight but I want to know what you guys think. Who do you guys think should be next for Caballero?

I don’t care how dominating Cabellero looked against Hosono. Cabellero is still a slapper with a sloppy technique. I would favor Uchiyama, or Gonzalez over Cabellero any day.

I’d take Uchiyama. Maybe Gonzalez. Jhonny is so chinny that I can’t be sure he can last.
