Ortiz vs Berto 2: Berto Reportedly Suffers Ruptured Bicep
Gabriel Montoya and Steve Kim of Max Boxing are tweeting that Andre Berto suffered a ruptured bicep. Andre Berto is currently undergoing surgery to fix the tear. It should go without saying that the Februray bout between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto is off.
This isn't good news for fight fans because this fight promised to be an all-action affair with both fighters looking for the KO from the opening bell. I couldn't see this fight being any worse than last year's fight, and that was one of the fight-of-the-year candidates.
Of course we now must shift our attentions to who Victor Ortiz is going to face for his next fight. The fight that makes the most sense is a rematch with Floyd Mayweather on Cinco de Mayo. Ortiz comes from Mexican decent, and he is a Golden Boy fighter that could be fairly cheap for Floyd. He would need to give Ortiz $2 million, but not much more than that and this is a key point. I bet Ortiz would be cheaper than Saul Canelo Alvarez and that is why Ortiz becomes a likely opponent for Floyd.

Mayweather-Ortiz does make sense on some level, but I’d prefer to see some new blood in there with Floyd. Even though the end was controversial, we pretty much saw Floyd picking Ortiz apart for the first few rounds.
You are being too short sighted. You got to consider how crazy Ortiz is going to be on the 24/7!

What are the chances Mayweather fights Cotto & GBP feeds Ortiz to Canelo in a catch weight fight?
GBP already tried to give up on Ortiz thinking he’d lose the first Berto fight. Maybe I’m just crazy thinking they would do something like that.

I don’t usually talk of boycotting because it can seem silly at times, but if Ortiz gets an immediate rematch with Floyd then I will not buy it. The guy gets his chance then does an obviously flagrant foul out of nervousness/frustration/hormones/whateverthehelliswrongwithOrtiz, and then gets KTFO while trying to hug Floyd for like the third time in the last ten seconds.
And this guy gets another fight with Floyd? That would be bullshit.

I know you know this. If they can’t get Cotto, perhaps they’ll look to Canelo (if GBP would let the young fella). If not, Ortiz makes sense because he’s cheap and it’s an easier fight to promote than, what, Mayweather-Peterson (LOL)?
Oh i definitely know this. I would just hate Ortiz getting another shot after what he did.

Well, maybe I’m wrong in thinking Cotto and Canelo are preferred opponents for Floyd. I imagine so, given that I’d think there’d be WAY more money in a Mayweather-Cotto or Mayweather-Alvarez fight than a Mayweather-Ortiz II could ever pull in (even if he would have to give a bigger cut to the other guys). But I’m not the expert on business dealings.
Both Cotto and Alvarez would demand a bigger cut than Ortiz. Ortiz will take a flat $2 million fee, Canelo and Cotto not so much.

Probably
Ortiz is so much bigger than Khan. I don’t think Amir’s first venture into 147 is going to be with arguably the biggest guy in the division. Ortiz came in at 164 on fight day with Mayweather.
Khan Ko'd Ortiz in amateurs
Of course that might not mean he’d do it in pros but good storyline

I really wanted to see that fight
Is it me or does it look like Mayweather and Manny are scrambling make something stick? All camps failed to announce their matchup mid January. Canelo, Cotto and Marquez must be hard to deal with this time around (good for them). I really don’t care to see Ortiz in the ring with Mayweather again, I’d prefer Canelo or Cotto.
