Brook vs Saldivia results: Kell Brook wins easy with third round TKO

Laurence Griffiths

Kell Brook faced no resistance from Argentina's Hector Saldivia tonight in Sheffield, winning in the third round of his IBF eliminator.

Kell Brook didn't really answer any questions tonight, but he did the job put in front of him, dominating overmatched Hector Saldivia of Argentina and stopping the traveling fighter in the third round, winning a shot at the IBF welterweight title.

Brook (29-0, 19 KO) floored Saldivia (41-3, 32 KO) on a right hand uppercut in the first round, easily won the second (but was hit with a couple of good shots late in the round), and then finished off "El Tigre" early in the third on a jab.

Saldivia was hopelessly out of his league against Brook, which wasn't exactly a surprise. In his one fight against a "known" opponent, he was finished in one by Said Ouali, and Ouali is no Kell Brook.

With the win, Brook now awaits the result of tonight's Randall Bailey-Devon Alexander fight from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The man who leaves with the IBF title from that fight is obligated to face Brook, and either way, that's a good matchup. Kell Brook didn't need to actually answer questions today; the matchup dictated that he was there to win, and all he had to do was win. He did that, quite easily. And he's as ready now as he's likely to get. It's on to the world stage for the Sheffield fighter, and he's got a good shot to make his mark at 147 pounds soon.
