A somewhat rusty Gary Sykes managed to pull through with a quarterfinal win over underdog Tommy Coyle in the Prizefighter quarterfinal, winning on scores of 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28. The scoring was a bit controversial, at least on Twitter, among people who know Coyle personally, but in all honesty, most of our viewers seemed to have Coyle nicking it, too.
Sykes (21-2, 5 KO) will now face Anthony Crolla in a rematch. The two met in 2009, with Sykes winning a 10-round decision.
