Vazquez Jr vs Oquendo results: Jose 'Chelo' Gonzalez scores first round TKO

Stay connected for news and updates

WBO-ranked No. 4 lightweight contender Jose "Chelo" Gonzalez scored a quick and devastating TKO win tonight on the Vazquez Jr-Oquendo PPV from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, knocking down Oscar Cuero twice to finish him off in the first round.

Gonzalez dropped Cuero on a left hand body shot first, a delayed reaction that saw Cuero take a knee about a minute into the round. He looked finished right there, but he got up and fought on. Gonzalez put a storm on him, but then laid back and picked a spot. He found it quickly. A straight right to the body put Cuero down for the second time, and though he bounced back up, he was in a lot of pain, spit out his mouthpiece, and the fight was stopped at 1:54 of the first round.
