Andre Berto faces Robert Guerrero, and Keith Thurman takes a test against Carlos Quintana on this weekend's HBO World Championship Boxing.
Saturday night's HBO World Championship boxing doubleheader features a terrific welterweight main event, and a very intriguing, somewhat under-the-radar co-feature in the junior middleweight division.
In the main event, Robert Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KO) defends the interim WBC title (full title currently held by an in-limbo Floyd Mayweather) against former two-time titlist Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KO) in a fight where both guys are taking a pretty big risk in order to carve their path into a big fight.
Guerrero is facing a big, strong, and fast welterweight, with many still wondering if "The Ghost" can properly handle the weight class against top opponents. He showed impressive physicality and toughness in a solid win over Selcuk Aydin in July, but Berto is a step above that. Berto, though, hasn't fought in over a year, and ring rust could be a major factor if Guerrero can get into a groove.
Keith Thurman (18-0, 17 KO) makes his second HBO appearance this year, and unlike last time, he's facing an opponent who has a chance to end his winning streak. Former welterweight titlist Carlos Quintana (29-3, 23 KO) is still plenty dangerous, as the Puerto Rican southpaw proved when he destroyed Deandre Latimore earlier this year.
BLH will have live round-by-round coverage on Saturday night, starting at 10 pm EST.
