Adonis Stevenson vs Jesus Gonzales to Be Aired By Fight Now TV
Saturday night's IBF super middleweight eliminator bout between Adonis Stevenson and Jesus Gonzales will be shown live on Fight Now TV from the Bell Centre in Montreal. The show will start at 7 p.m. EST and air in full.
Stevenson (16-1, 13 KO) has come back hot from a stumble in his first pro loss against veteran gatekeeper Darnell Boone in April 2010, winning his last three over Derek Edwards (TKO-3), Dion Savage (KO-1), and Aaron Pryor Jr (TKO-9). The Pryor fight in December was a true beatdown -- Stevenson just wrecked him, totally outclassed him.
Gonzales (27-1, 14 KO) is coming off of a highly-entertaining win over Francisco Sierra on Friday Night Fights, but that was last July and he's been out of the ring since then, which could lead to some rust. Gonzales is perhaps most famous as the last man to ever defeat Andre Ward. That was when Ward was 12 years old, but hey, he gets to say he beat Andre Ward. He also beat the likes of Andre Berto, Alfredo Angulo, and Sechew Powell as an amateur, but that was the amateurs.
As a pro, Gonzales does have talent, and is a good fighter. His career has been derailed heavily due to issues with Top Rank, the company he signed with at 18, and then Star Boxing, a deal that saw him take a two-year hiatus.
It's a good, well-matched fight, and the winner will move into the currently vacant No. 2 spot in the IBF rankings (the No. 1 spot is also vacant right now). Both fighters are as ready as they'll ever be to make their move.
Here's the full undercard (subject to change):
Light Heavyweights, 12 Rounds
Otis Griffin (23-9-2, 9 KO) vs Eleider Alvarez (7-0, 5 KO)
Super Featherweights, 8 Rounds
Arash Usmanee (16-0, 8 KO) vs Innocent Anyanwu (21-3-2, 13 KO)

I hope Stevenson wins, but if this guy was a good Amateur boxer… Up against a guy who had what, 20 amateur fights? I’m not sure.
I really like Stevenson’s power from his lanky frame, his over the top left is a banger, and if he has a hands off ref like Smoger, you can guarantee he is going to hold the back of the head and let off some real power.
Rivers Runs Red.
Gonzales was a good amateur fighter as a boy. He went pro at 18, which was a surprise at the time.

I sure wouldn't complain if we get to see Cloud-Stevenson

I think Stevenson will place himself in a great spot for when the top dogs at 168 will leave for 175.
