PrintDereck Chisora has caused quite a stir today, one day ahead of his WBC heavyweight title showdown against Vitali Klitschko in Germany, slapping the 40-year-old star in the face at their weigh-in today. Here's the video:
That's no little slap, either -- that's a good smack. Chisora has already been fined $50,000 by the WBC, and Jose Sulaiman has more or less publicly thrown his support behind Klitschko for tomorrow's fight:
"He’s no gentleman at all, and he’s failed in what we expect of boxers. He wanted Vitali to lose control, but Vitali will make him pay for this in the ring, definitely."
Klitschko came in at 243 pounds on the scales, while Chisora was at 241.
Vitali, of course, had his own reaction, and as usual he stayed pretty calm, took it mostly in stride, and is planning to do his talking in the ring. From Sky Sports:
"I'll be hitting him back tomorrow, in the ring. He's not all there. Dereck is full of nervousness and I feel he is afraid, otherwise he would not have jumped back like he did. He hit me not like a boxer but like a woman, with an open hand. If he wants to fight properly, he must do that with his fists."
Well, if anyone was expect a dull fight still, I think this probably ups the chances that Vitali is going to come out looking for blood tomorrow. Good for boxing fans, probably bad for Dereck Chisora.

He’s going to beat the shit out of him. Chisora is IMO a bit more nakedly aggressive than Arreola. While Arreola walked into shots, he could be “controlled” with the jabs. Chisora will do all he can to come through them and throw leather, however recklessly. Vitali’s going to unleash the heavy artillery earlier here.

I am all for finding the stupid ass things the WBC did, but I can’t agree with this. The idiot smacked him in the face. It’s not an excuse to fine him, it’s a damn good reason.

It was stupid of him, but don’t you agree that this stirs up more interest in this fight? Boxing forums are blowing up because of this, the media is talking it up.
The day that boxing forums (including this one) have any impact on anything will be the day before pigs fly. All those dudes were gonna watch this fight to begin with.
More people who barely payed attention to this fight might get interested and tune in.
Maybe? But I doubt it’s a significant number of increased viewers on RTL, where the fight was already going to be a hit; or BoxNation, which is a subscriber service; or Epix, which is barely in existence.
It didn’t sell any tickets. It didn’t get a network to pay more money. The only money it affected was Chisora’s money, for the worse.
If he wanted to do something to increase interest in this fight, and decided it had to be hitting Vitali in the face, he should have done it at a press conference weeks ago, not the day before the fight.
But I don’t think he was trying to increase interest. I just think he’s an unpleasant idiot.

About 5 people I know, who generally have no interest in boxing whatsoever, have got in touch with me all excited about this fight. Then I tell them that its not on Sky Sports but on a subscription channel. Then they all went ‘oh…well… I don’t want to see it that much, I just kind of wanted to see Klitschko destroy this guy’.
Also, Chisora is an idiot and fully deserves the fine.

Actually – might not be. All the programming today and around the fight tomorrow says “Freeview” in front of it, but the main segment from 9.30 onwards doesn’t.

Let’s not forget his more recent assault of a girlfriend. Chisora doesn’t get a lot of terrible press the way other, more famous guys have now and in the past, but he’s really, really not a nice person at all.

…you can’t fine a guy for non-boxing related issues. So the “hitting women” thing doesn’t really apply to anything in the “fine” department. Plus, Chisora has that on his own record.

Chisora told a UK radio phone in show on talkSPORT this morning that he had something planned for the weigh in. This was definitely premeditated to try and throw Vitali off his game. Could be viewed as a master stroke come Saturday night……. But, with the lack of reaction from Vitali I suspect it will just go down as an epic fail!

I wonder if he realized how big of a mistake he made when he saw the look on Vitali’s face.
I believe Vitali Klitschko is one of the world’s most intimidating men. Largely because he’s so totally in control of himself, and such a gentleman. He is unflappable. He cannot be flapped.

Scrubs is one of my favorite shows, and I have extensive thoughts on it. I’ll keep them brief.
Seasons one and two are fantastic. Season three is very, very good. After that it gets rocky.
Season four is strong, and Heather Graham held her own more than I expected, although she had annoying Heather Graham mannerisms. Season five was quite bad — a sudden and incredibly jarring turn. Season six is heinous. Once the show became more stupid than smart, more goofy than funny, it was all over. Season seven, half-aborted due to the writers strike, was going down the same wretched path and frankly, it’s almost a relief it was cut short, because the episodes were that bad.
Then they changed networks and Bill Lawrence remembered what the show was, and season eight was a nice sendoff season for the real show. The ninth season, in the new hospital/school, with all the new characters, was actually slightly better than it should have been, but still a predictable failure.

To beat a Klit you have to get in their head. He tried….. He failed
Im more concerned about Suliman. His quotes are unbelievably biased and someone in his position should not be making them. I know there is nothing anyone can do but…. it’s still wrong
I might be the only one seeing it this way,
but that took balls, and I think it could pay off. Del Boy’s got no chance if Vitali just chooses to jab and fight like he usually does. His only chance is to drag him into a brawl. I think Chisora understands that, and he’s taking his chances.
I can see what you are saying but i only think that works if you have the talent, punch and or toughness to compete with the Klits.
Chisora is an average at best fighter, imo.

He has only a fraction of what Vitali has in all the above categories, imo, even though he is the much younger man.

Every boxing fan and his or her father, mother, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, and who else might be interested, is hoping for some kind of decent showing before Klitschko closes the show.
I think that’s all. At least, that’s what I’m looking for. Chisora whaled away at Helenius, and bulldozed his way in, and Helenius just couldn’t keep him off. Also, Helenius was not in notably wonderful condition. So, Chisora was able to connect repeatedly with big body shots, and have some luck with those wild head shots.
Chisora has some tremendous body work in that fight, but as someone pointed out, this was partly (not entirely) because Helenius really didn’t look good. I personally think that Helenius has some moments of brilliant fighting interspersed with extended periods of looking like he’s facing something he didn’t expect.
Chisora has a bulldog mentality, an ability to cover distance in an amazingly short span of time for a heavyweight, willingness to throw a punch and be damned of what happens next, and a caution-to-the-wind commitment that probably comes from not having a tomorrow after his next fight.
But he’s just not good enough.
However, he’ll give what he’s got, and that’s what I’m looking for. It will be a slaughter, but I hope the best fight that I’ve seen a Klitschko in for a long time.
And I hope it is not a prolonged torment.

And I’ve wondered what impact Helenius’s hand injury had on the fight. Chisora admitted he was hurt in the 1st round by that same hand.
Anyway, WAR CHISORA! This division is in bad need of a shakeup.
I keep forgetting about Helenius’ hand. He also had very little defense, as I recall.
Anyway, I think that Chisora’s only chance will be to get close enough, often enough, to land those body shots, and he’s got a pretty steep uphill battle to do that.

Don’t agree with that at all. He aint in Klitchko’s league but name me a heavyweight that is currently? When he trains and is fit he is a real handful and hits like a mule kicks! Ask Danny Williams! Decent head movement and relatavley fast for a Heavy. For me a fit and focused Chisora takes care of most other Heavyweights out there barring maybe David Price.
On that note how much do you want to bet the Klitchkos avoid Pricey like the plague? When we gonna see them fight someone who is taller than 5’11"

No, don’t. Danny Williams was disgustingly out of shape and hadn’t even trained for that fight. Danny Williams wasn’t there to fight – he may as well have rolled over. Honestly, I’d have preferred he just not show up than come to that fight as he did. He was pathetic.

Vitali has in recent times fought Kevin Johnson (6’3") and Shannon Briggs (6’4"). Neither of them did any better than the usual. Wladimir fought Haye (6’3") and Tony Thompson (6’5"). Truth is most of the taller heavyweights aren’t any good. The Klitschkos are a rare breed.

I’m probably the only guy in the world who thinks this fight is gonna kick ass.
When Del Boy is in shape, he moves his head and closes the distance quite well for a heavyweight. I think he’ll make Vit use those old ass legs some tomorrow.
Arreola is easy to control with a jab because he doesn’t move his head at all. He’s also a slow fatty. At Vit’s size, it was like a big fat heavy bag slowly walking to him at the same level all night. Chisora has the ability to make him miss on the way in.
Maybe I’m just being optimistic because this is the closest thing we’ve got to Ali vs Frazier.

I think I recall at some stage seeing Danny Williams in shape for a fight! Or twice maybe…….Not too often though! Point still remains though that if you did ask Danny Williams I know for a fact he would tell you it’s the hardest he’s been hit. To say Chisora has no power is simply not true.
