"Lets say a fighter gets a 1 Million dollar payday.
How much does he ACTUALLY make.. after trainers, coaches, managers, promoters are paid... and then AFTER taxes.
-260,000 (26% promoter)
--100,000 (10% of purse - Trainer)
-20,000 (2% cutman)
-217,000 (35% Taxes)
$403,000 After taxes.
Not including managers, training camp costs etc etc...."
I know each fighter has different contracts with their managers and promoters, but use a known figure.
The promoter TopRank gets 27% which makes sense because they have to do all the work to promote the fight. The trainer usually gets 10%.The cutman gets his 2% and uncle sam gets 35% if its over 350k i believe.
Now Gambaos situation gets very tricky because Arum gets 27%. Then Oner gets around 200k(reported) AND Gonzales gets his slice. Just who is Gonzales? He is the Arena Box Lawyer/manager and he gets as reported anywhre from 20-27%. But why does Yuri get raped by Arena box? I dont know maybe it was desparation to leave Cuba? How bad does a payday have to be where Oner gives Yuri back his 200k share. Im not here to start a "aww poor yuri"
or "his dumbass fault for signing the contract".And lets not forget hes costing Rios his career payday aswell. But maybe Gambao does have to stand up for himself.
Now Mayweather, Delahoya and Cotto look very smart because instead of giving up 27% they cut that amount in half or maybe even smaller. Should boxing have a union? Bradley before the Khan fiasco was asked how much he takes home and he said usually around half. Was Marvin Hagler the smartest of them all? He had no big team, it was basically just himself and Petronelli who acted as his cutman, trainer, manager etc. He kept it all simple.
