I saw this guys Last night on Friday night Fights. He really put on a show. I've looked up his record and his only three losses seem to be to no name guys that he fought in Ghana and lost on points. It was definitely a close fight vs. Katsidis, but he seemed to be able to deal with the pressure tactics of Katsidis very well.
I cannot decide whether or not I can see him as being a major contender to guys like Rios, Marquez and the like, but I really like fighters who have great defense with even better accuracy from the outside. He has a stiff jab, a great uppercut, and an excellent straight. By the mid rounds, Katsidis had been transformed from the schoolyard bully to the timid, less aggressive fighter who was searching desperately for a way to hurt Mensah. It was clear that the Katsidis camp did not expect this. After all they chose Mensah for their fighter who had lost three of his last four fights.
Who else saw Mensah fight last night, and who else thinks that there could be a new contender for the lineal light welterweight championship?
