The spoon fed child of a boxing legend won in a fight that any boxing fan, diehard or casual, had to love watching. Better yet, it ended by stoppage without controversy. The judges, each with a valid driver's liscense to prove their identity, did not have to make any important decisions. The referee, another son of a Texas 'legend', also had little role to play, althought I have to admit, he sure looked like he wanted more than a bit part.
But thanks to the boxing Gods.... we got ourselves a barn burner tonight and, for the moment at least, all is well for another day. So forget last week. A new day is born.
The fall is set to go with the young Canelo against the powerful but unpredictable Ortiz. And now, by all accounts, Sergio Martinez is finally going to get to test the fact or fiction that is the young Julio Cesar Chavez.
And some people said Boxing is dead. Ha!
