Erislandy Lara will return to the ring on June 30, as the Cuban junior middleweight contender will face Freddy Hernandez on Showtime, part of the Bundrage vs Spinks II card.
Lara (16-1-1, 11 KO) last fought on February 18, easily defeating Ronald Hearns in a mismatch, scoring a first round knockout victory. It was Lara's first fight since he was robbed against Paul Williams in July 2011, and though he's tried to make a case for himself for bigger fights, the fact is he doesn't draw and he's a dangerous opponent.
Hernandez (30-2, 20 KO) isn't really as good as his record, but "El Riel" is a credible fighter, better than Hearns by a damn sight, and won his last fight in October 2011, defeating Luis Collazo by decision. Prior to that, he was stopped in one in an undeserved shot at then-WBC welterweight titlist Andre Berto.
Gary Russell Jr was also scheduled for the card, but Gary Shaw recently won a purse bid for a fight pitting Russell (19-0, 11 KO) and Luis Franco (11-0, 7 KO).
