The question was recently posed to me as to whom is greater - Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Roy Jones Jr. After thinking about it for a bit, they're actually extraordinarily close to me. Of course, Mayweather still has the opportunity to improve his resume, while Jones is toast (although I myself pretty much discount everything he's done or not since 2005).

When I think about each of their top 10 wins, here's how I would rank them in the aggregate:

1. Jones over Toney
2. Jones over Hopkins
3. Mayweather over Castillo II
4. Mayweather over Corrales
5. Mayweather over Castillo I
6. Mayweather over Cotto
7. Jones over Ruiz
8. Jones over Hill
9. Mayweather over DLH
10. Jones over Tarver
11. Jones over Griffin
12. Mayweather over Marquez
13. Jones over McCallum
14. Mayweather over Hatton
15. Jones over Gonzalez
16. Mayweather over Chavez
17. Jones over Woods
18. Mayweather over Mosley
19. Mayweather over Hernandez
20. Jones over Tate

In the end, I think Jones has a very slight edge right now on the strength of his best two wins, but I wouldn't argue too hard if someone thought Mayweather was better. I personally don't take Jones's losses too seriously since I don't think he clearly lost a fight until he was well past prime. Both have a lot of similarities, especially in terms of avoiding a lot of fighters and facing a number of their better opponents either outside of their best weight classes or when they were close to being done.
