WBA cruiserweight titleholder Guillermo Jones and Denis Lebedev have reached an agreement to face one another later this year, Fightnews reports, and thus a purse bid for the bout has been canceled.
Jones (38-3-2, 30 KO) has held the title since September 2008, when he beat Firat Arslan, but has amazingly made just two defenses, and neither of those were marquee bouts. Jones, 40, beat Valery Brudov in October 2010, and last November, he easily disposed of Michael Marrone.
The Don King-promoted Panamanian is a good fighter, but simply doesn't fight. Lebedev (24-1, 18 KO) stays busy if nothing else, with recent wins over shot Roy Jones Jr, shot James Toney, and Shawn Cox.
Lebedev, 32, was set to return on October 6 in Russia, but details for a fight with Jones are still being worked on, though Russia would be the most logical choice for a location, since Lebedev can draw a little bit there.
