Here's a highlight video package for Matthew Macklin's final preparations in Las Vegas, as he gets ready to face Joachim Alcine on Saturday night, part of the Chavez Jr vs Martinez undercard:
Macklin (28-4, 19 KO) is getting another shot to impress American audiences after coming up short in a valiant effort and entertaining fight in March against Sergio Martinez.
Alcine (33-2-1, 19 KO) is a former junior middleweight titlist, but his reign wasn't exactly memorable, and he hasn't been a factor in years at this point. Born in Haiti, Alcine fights out of Quebec, and is coming off of a decent win over the floundering David Lemieux.
Macklin, 30, is respected, but the 36-year-old Alcine just might have another big night left in him. My gut feeling at the moment is that "Mack the Knife" will be able to overpower him in the end. He's come up short in two world title shots, and this is a step back to get him rolling again, or at least that's the design. If he can win impressively, he's still in the hunt at 160.
