Lucas Matthysse was impressive with a fairly dominant win over Oluesgun Ajose on Showtime. (Photo by Tom Casino/Showtime)
Lucas Matthysse delivered punishment all night in Las Vegas against Olusegun Ajose, and finally in the 10th round was able to stop the double-tough Nigerian, winning the interim WBC junior welterweight title.
Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO) physically dominated much of the fight, but Ajose (30-1, 14 KO) hung in admirably -- and literally on many occasions, while Matthysse hurt him consistently with body and head shots.
Ajose is still a top ten junior welterweight, in my eyes, and could give a lot of guys a really hard night. And even though Matthysse was fairly dominant here, he didn't have it easy himself -- he had to work all the time to get this done.
You'll have to excuse the truncated recap here, because Andre Ward and Chad Dawson are currently going to war on HBO. So join us for that fight as we wrap up a great night of boxing.
