Carlos Molina faces Cory Spinks for IBF positioning at 154 pounds, while Antwone Smith battles Jose Luis Castillo in the co-feature on ESPN Friday Night Fights.
Tonight at 9 pm EST on ESPN2, Friday Night Fights is back with a junior middleweight main event, as Carlos Molina returns to his hometown of Chicago to take on St. Louis veteran Cory Spinks.
Molina (20-5-2, 6 KO) has been inactive since August, when he dominated Damian Frias. That followed a controversial DQ loss to James Kirkland in February, a performance that sort of eliminated the crafty, difficult Molina from getting any big opportunities.
Spinks (39-7, 11 KO) last fought in June, when he was stopped for a second time by IBF titlist Cornelius Bundrage. This fight is actually an IBF eliminator for the No. 2 spot, because Don King and Spinks apparently have incriminating photos of someone in the organization.
In the co-feature, former lightweight champ Jose Luis Castillo (64-11-1, 55 KO) will face Antwone Smith (22-4-1, 12 KO) in a 10-round bout. Smith weighed in at just under 156 pounds, while Castillo weighed in at 152, so this is some kind of catchweight or the like.
Also, after the ESPN2 broadcast, ESPN3.com will stream a heavyweight bout between Artur Szpilka (12-0, 9 KO) of Poland and Chicago's Mike Mollo (20-3-1, 12 KO).
