Welterweight contender Victor Ortiz has reportedly signed on for the next season of Dancing With The Stars.

According to the New York Daily News (scroll down a ways to see the spot on Ortiz), welterweight contender and one-time Floyd Mayweather opponent Victor Ortiz has signed on to be on the next season of Dancing With The Stars. And no, I'm not making this up.

It's just a little blurb from their website, but here is what they say under the heading "Ortiz is ready to rumba":

Boxer Victor Ortiz is going from seeing stars to dancing with them. Sources tell us the 26-year-old fighter who was knocked out when he dropped his guard against Floyd Mayweather in 2011 has signed on for the upcoming season of "Dancing With The Stars". Our insider also says that ABC is interested in adding Emily Maynard, Kourtney Kardashian, and Honey Boo Boo's recently slimmed down mother, Mama June, to the new cast.

As Elaine Benes once said, I am speechless. I am without speech.

Anyways, this just adds more fuel to the notion that Ortiz would rather be a celebrity than a boxer by this point. Recently, he released his new lotion/lube/motor oil, VO by Facelube. If you haven't seen the commercial for it yet, here ya go. You can thank me later.

Last time we saw Ortiz in a boxing ring he was getting his jaw broken by Josesito Lopez. Since then, nothing much has been mentioned for his return. Perhaps this is why.

If Ortiz truly does a have a spot on Dancing With The Stars, it could be an immaculate God-send. Ortiz has a way with words, and the whole nation may be in for a treat here. At the end of the day, I just hope this happens for the perverse entertainment value.
