Darren Barker will return as the headline act at Wembley Arena on March 9, facing Italian veteran Simone Rotolo.
Middleweight contender Darren Barker will be back in the ring on March 9, as the former European, British, and Commonwealth champion, and world title challenger will headline at Wembley Arena in London against Italian veteran Simone Rotolo.
You probably recall that Barker-Rotolo was actually signed for last year, but Barker was forced to withdraw from the bout with an arm injury. The 30-year-old Barker finally made his long awaited return to action in December, having not fought since March 2011 when he lost to Sergio Martinez, and dominated Kerry Hope.
Rotolo, 37, has been a pro since 1999, and is the reigning Italian champion, not that that necessarily means much of anything. In his biggest fight to date, he dropped a split decision to Sebastian Sylvester in 2007. More likely than not, he will be a tune-up sort of opponent for Barker, especially if "Dazzling" Darren is in the mental form he was in December, when he looked uncharacteristically ferocious in dismantling Hope.
A welterweight fight between Lee Purdy and Carson Jones is also set for the card.
