It looks like Marcos Maidana and Josesito Lopez will face each other on April 20 on Showtime.
According to Boxing Scene's Ernest Gabion it looks as if a fight between Victor Ortiz conquerors Marcos Maidana and Josesito Lopez will take place on April 20 on Showtime in Ontario, California at the Citizens Bank Arena. The fight has not been signed for yet but, according to the article, sources close to the situation on both sides are saying it's good to go.
This is a very good matchup pitting two exciting fighters together in what could be a slugfest. Lopez had by far the biggest year of his career in 2012 by breaking Victor Ortiz's jaw to stop him in eight then signing on to face Canelo Alvarez at junior middleweight. That leap proved to be a little too great for Lopez when Canelo ran roughshod over him, but no one could blame Lopez for giving it a go at one of the biggest stars in the sport.
Maidana, on the other hand, had an up and down time last year. He was sorely outclassed against Devon Alexander last February, losing widely on points. On the Canelo/Lopez undercard, he rebounded to stop Jesus Soto-Karass in eight in what was a great fight.
This fight will likely be the chief supporting bout to Amir Khan's next fight that takes place on April 20. As for who Khan could fight next, the two names being tossed around right now are Humberto Soto (not great, but not terrible) and Julio Diaz (wow).
UPDATE: Steve Kim is reporting on Twitter that Khan's fight will likely take place on April 27th which would be the undercard of Danny Garcia and Zab Judah. So perhaps Maidana - Lopez could be the April 20 main event.
