Freddie Roach says that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr wants to work with him again, according to Bob Arum, and he's also got a new, big name, undefeated fighter joining his stable in about a month.
Marcos Villegas, Fight Hub TV: "Freddie, just a quick update on what's going on with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, have you heard from him?"
Freddie Roach: "No, I haven't heard from him. Bob's told me that he wants me back, and I said, I'll only train him if he shows up in the gym. First day he misses, I'll go home. He was hit with a big, big fine, way out of character, I never saw such a thing for a non-enhancing drug. But the commission, I guess, is getting strict with people. I haven't heard from him, though. He's a good kid and was a hard worker for me for four fights. I will train him again, but only if he shows up every day."
Fight Hub TV: "With Bob telling you that he wants you back, what'd you make of all the other stuff that was said before, you thinking that maybe he might go with Robert Garcia. Did any of that leave a bad taste in your mouth, leave you a little hesitant?"
Roach: "I don't really read the internet, people read it to me and stuff and I hear stories, but I really don't have time to be mad at people. I like people and we've got a good rapport. He got a little bit lazy in the last training camp, and it was a little hard and frustrating for me to do it. The only reason I stayed is because his dad asked me to. If it wasn't for his dad, I would have left. If he wants someone else to train him I have no problem with that. If they get along, they might connect. You never know where that connection is. I'm not worried about anything. I've got a good stable of fighters, and I'm very happy with what I have."
(Editor's Note: Roach did say in early February that he expected Chavez to go with Robert Garcia.)
Fight Hub TV: "Besides Victor Ortiz, have there been any other fighters that have reached out to you and have been wanting to work with you?"
Roach: "Yeah, a big one. Bigger than all those guys. I can't tell you."
Fight Hub TV: "Give us a little hint here, Freddie. Is he undefeated? Is he a champion?"
Roach: "He's undefeated."
Fight Hub TV: "Is he a Top Rank or Golden Boy fighter?"
Roach: "I can't say. I'm really excited about it."
Fight Hub TV: "When do you think that will be official?"
Roach: "About a month."
