Ladies and Gentlemen we witnessed history!
48 year old, Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins previously set the record for oldest fighter to win a title at the age of 46 years old. He broke his previous record by a margin of 2 years. Now 48 years old and still going strong, BHop wants a shot at Andre Ward.
His fight with Cloud was nothing to look over though. BHop displayed a knowledge of the sweet science that only comes with age. Cloud was getting picked apart early, he landed a few clean shots but it was obvious that BHop was more well prepared.
The Veteran, Hopkins, used seamless combos and quick shots to wear down Cloud early and even showed shades of Legendary Muhammad Ali's "Rope A Dope" strategy to outsmart the younger fighter. There were points when Hopkins was even smiling and having fun with Cloud when he realized he was in control. But, BHop wisely avoided leaving any openings despite his antics.
Hopkins still looks fresh at nearly 50 years of age, and still knows how to "school" the new kids. Will he fight Ward? It's unclear at this point, but I for one will not count out the sure Hall of Famer, Bernard Hopkins.
