Donaire vs Rigondeaux purses: Big paydays for HBO main event

Nonito Donaire and Guillermo Rigondeaux have main event-level purses for tonight's fight at Radio City Music Hall.

Nonito Donaire and Guillermo Rigondeaux will earn a pair of big paychecks for tonight's HBO main event from Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Dan Rafael of ESPN reports, via the New York State Athletic Commission, that Donaire's purse is $1.32 million, with Rigondeaux earning a career-high $750,000 purse for the bout.

Donaire (31-1, 20 KO) has become a key cog on what can now be called the HBO roster, headlining his fifth show on the network in his sixth fight under the HBO banner, with his only co-feature slot coming against Wilfredo Vazquez Jr on the Chavez-Rubio card, which really was promoted more as a double main event.

Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO) is doing pretty well for himself with this one, considering he has no fan base, doesn't sell tickets, and despite some HBO hype and the endless love of Max Kellerman, hasn't really captured fans' imaginations, either.

That said, Donaire-Rigondeaux is a highly-anticipated fight for serious fans, and it doesn't happen without both guys agreeing to take the career risk against one another, so the paydays aren't outrageous, really. A fight people wanted to see got done, to the credit of all involved.
