Manny Pacquiao's next fight targeted for October in Macau

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Bob Arum says that he's looking to book an October date in Macau for Manny Pacquiao's return to the ring, following his December loss to Juan Manuel Marquez.

It looks as though at least one big fall fight isn't being planned for September 14, as promoter Bob Arum says that he's looking to book the first or second weekend in October for Manny Pacquiao's return fight, which he says will be staged in Macau.

Pacquiao, 34, went 0-2 in 2012, with one very controversial loss to Timothy Bradley, followed by a KO and Fight of the Year loss to Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8. Marquez has stated repeatedly that he won't fight Pacquiao a fifth time, and has said he'll be making an official announcement today on his next fight.

Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO) has not had his hand raised since November 2011, when he edged Marquez by decision in their third bout in Las Vegas. Outside of Marquez, there has been talk of Pacquiao rematching Bradley, or possibly facing someone else. Mike Alvarado seems a possibility after his rematch win against Brandon Rios, who had previously been considered a potential 2013 Pacquiao opponent.
