Tonight at 10:30 pm EDT on ESPN2, Javier Fortuna faces Miguel Zamudio in the main event of ESPN Friday Night Fights.
The bout was originally set to contest Fortuna's interim WBA featherweight title (which didn't need to exist), but Fortuna (21-0, 15 KO) was overweight yesterday, and forfeited the belt on the scales. Zamudio (25-1-1, 13 KO) can still win the belt tonight.
In the televised co-feature, junior middleweight prospects John Jackson (15-1, 14 KO) and Cerresso Fort (16-0-1, 11 KO) will do battle in a six-round bout. Jackson, the son of Julian Jackson, lost to Willie Nelson in a really good fight last year on the Chavez-Martinez undercard, but past that has been a wrecking ball against lesser opposition. Fort, from Saint Paul, Minnesota, is a 26-year-old prospect who has done the club circuit at home, beating Minnesota stalwart Andy Kolle by fifth round TKO in January, then shutting out familiar trial horse Dennis Sharpe in March.
I may not be in tonight, as I'm a very busy and important man. If not, enjoy the fights!
