Weights: Canelo Alvarez, Austin Trout good to go for Saturday night

Canelo Alvarez and Austin Trout made weight for their WBC and WBA junior middleweight title unification bout tomorrow at the Alamodome.

Canelo Alvarez and Austin Trout are officially set for battle tomorrow night on Showtime, from San Antonio's Alamodome, as the two unbeaten junior middleweight titlists hit the scales and made weight this afternoon at Market Square.

Canelo weighed in at 153½, with Trout at 153¼, both slightly below the division limit of 154 pounds. Though looks can be deceiving at a weigh-in event, both fighters looked fit, confident, and ready to go, with a quietly intense staredown moment that drew the usual high praise for staredowns that don't involve headbutts, chokes, shoves, kisses, or over-the-top jawing.

In the Showtime co-feature, Omar Figueroa will face Abner Cotto with a pair of vacant secondary lightweight titles on the line. Figueroa looked a bit gaunt (again, looks can be deceiving), but came in at 134½. Cotto was one pound lighter at 133½.

We'll have more on Canelo-Trout today, including staff picks later this evening, leading into tomorrow's full-scale live coverage.
