Johnathon Banks and Seth Mitchell have a new date for their rematch, as the two heavyweights will collide again on June 22, as the Showtime co-feature to the Broner-Malignaggi main event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Richard Schaefer tells BoxingScene.com that there will be a third fight, but he's still working on that and can't announce anything just yet.
Banks (29-1-1, 19 KO) stopped Mitchell (25-1-1, 19 KO) last November on HBO, getting the hyped prospect and former college football player out in two rounds. Mitchell's team wanted the immediate rematch and exercised their contractual clause, which shows a lot of desire and guts on their part. Banks has been happy to get in there and try to do it again.
The rematch was originally scheduled for the Broner-Rees HBO broadcast in February, but Banks hurt his thumb and had to postpone the date. With Golden Boy now working only with Showtime, the fight has moved to a new network, with the stakes the same for both men.
