How I scored Canelo v Trout.

A little late on this but this was the first time I finally got to see the full showing of the fight. It's a contentious fight with many different opinions on the decision so I decided to post how I saw it, round by round.

Round 1: 10-9 Canelo. I liked Canelo's pressing and he effectively was coming forward. Neither landed much but Canelo was just slightly more effective going forward and won the round for me.

Round 2: 10-9 Canelo. This was much clearer. Both still were feeling each other out but Canelo landed a nice uppercut near the end of the round to steal it. 20-18 Canelo

Round 3: 10-9 Trout. Clear round for Trout here. Landed his jab very effectively, avoided Canelo's punches, landed some short counter shots. I give this one to Austin. 29-28 Canelo

Round 4: 10-9 Trout. Real close round. Canelo made you think a little bit but I liked Trout's counters and jab just a bit more and he gets the round on my scorecard. 38-38 Canelo.

Round 5: 10-9 Canelo. Another close round but Canelo just nipped it. Landed bigger shots, was able to work through Trout's jab. Tight round but edge to Canelo. 48-47 Canelo

Round 6: 10-9 Canelo. Wow. Great round. Tons of action, big punches, good exchanges. I give it to Canelo though. Trout landed some nice shots but Canelo avoided the biggest shots. 58-56 Canelo

Round 7: 10-8 Canelo. Another great round. Trout battled back well but Canelo did still tagged him numerous times with big shots. This is where Canelo is pulling away. I had it 38-38 after 4. Now I have it 68-64 Canelo.

Round 8: 10-9 Trout. This was Trout's round. He dictated it, stalked Canelo, landed some good jabs and was in control. Good comeback round for Austin. 77-74 Canelo.

Round 9: 10-9 Canelo. Brisk early start from Canelo. Landed some real good shots. Trout landed some nice jabs but even though he was busy at the end as Canelo wavered he didn't land enough. Canelo round. 87-83 Canelo.

Round 10: 10-9 Trout. Great round from Trout. He was busy, made the action, and hit some real nice shots. Good jabs and combos. Canelo landed shots but Trout unlike in Round 9, landed big shots. 96-93 Canelo.

Round 11: 10-9 Trout. Great round. Trout started off with good volume and landed his jab. Canelo landed some nice shots but was visibly weary. Nice close by Trout and he gets it. 105-103 Canelo.

Round 12: 10-9 Canelo. Not much action. Canelo landed some nice shots and it was in similar mold to the majority of the rounds. Canelo sneaks it with the volume of his punches and landing big shots.

Final Scorecard: 115-112 Canelo.

Trout fought very well. His jab was crisp and he landed some shots but he didn't have the volume in his punches. In the big exchanges, Trout was coming up short. Canelo landed the bigger shots, got the better of the exchanges, and that's why he took this fight. Tough fight, hard one to score. You didn't know who was fighting "their" fight, who was landing cleaner, who had the better of the exchanges. It was tough but looking over it, I have a firm 115-112 win for Canelo Alvarez.
