Top Rank's debut in Macau is upon us, as two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming of China makes his pro debut in the main event, with a pair of world titles up for grabs, and several notable names also featured on the card.
Top Rank's official site will begin streaming the undercard at 6 am EDT. BoxNation in the UK will pick up live coverage at 9:30 am EDT.
Zou, 32, won gold in Beijing and London, with the London run being decidedly more difficult. He was aging in the amateur game, and frankly will be facing some lesser fighters early in his pro career. But Top Rank want to move him quickly, with Arum talking up a potential world title fight as soon as next year. We've seen amateur stars like Guillermo Rigondeaux moved quickly in recent years, but even the legendary Cuban standout had a bump in the road or two early on when he started facing real opponents.
That won't be the case today, most likely, as Zou faces Mexican novice Eleazar Valenzuela (2-1-2, 1 KO) in the four-round flyweight main event.
Bigger, more boxing-relevant fights sit on the undercard. Top flyweight Brian Viloria (32-3, 19 KO) will defend his WBA and WBO titles against Juan Francisco Estrada (22-2, 18 KO). Estrada is definitely the underdog, but the young Mexican can punch, and gave Roman Gonzalez a hell of a battle in his last fight, which took place at 108 pounds. Estrada's other loss came to Juan Carlos Sanchez, a current 115-pound titlist, in 2011.
The WBO super featherweight title is on the line, too, as Rocky Martinez (26-1-2, 16 KO) defends against Diego Magdaleno (23-0, 9 KO). It's a pretty big step up for Magdaleno, but the Vegas native says he's ready to go, and Martinez is a vulnerable, generally exciting fighter.
