Burns vs Gonzalez: Live results and round-by-round coverage

Matchroom Boxing

This afternoon from Scotland, Ricky Burns defends his WBO lightweight title against Jose "Chelo" Gonzalez on Sky Sports.

Ricky Burns is back in action today at Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, as he'll defend his WBO lightweight title against Puerto Rico's Jose "Chelo" Gonzalez on Sky Sports, going live at 2:00 pm EDT. BLH will be here with live coverage.

Burns (35-2, 10 KO) is making his Matchroom debut after leaving Frank Warren following a series of fight dates that were called off for various reasons. This will be his first fight since his very impressive domination of Kevin Mitchell last September.

Gonzalez (22-0, 17 KO) is unbeaten but untested, which doesn't mean he's got no shot here, because frankly, we just don't really know how good he is or might be. This could turn out to be a trap fight for Burns.

On the undercard, John Simpson (24-9, 11 KO) and Choi Tseveenpurev (36-6, 24 KO) will needlessly give money to the WBC to fight for their vacant International Silver super featherweight title, which means that they aren't even fighting for a secondary trinket, but a secondary trinket to the secondary trinket. The fight, however, should be pretty good, and is well-matched.

Super middleweight prospect Rocky Fielding (13-0, 7 KO) will also be in action.
