Junior middleweight would-be contender James Kirkland is back in jail in Texas, arrested on assault charges and held on $5,000 bail, according to the American-Statesman.
The 29-year-old Kirkland is charged with bodily injury to a family member, and this arrest further clouds his already murky boxing future. Kirkland (31-1, 27 KO) hasn't fought since a controversial DQ win over Carlos Molina in February 2012, and made some minor news last year for disputes with pretty much his entire management and promotional team, as well as again parting ways with trainer Ann Wolfe.
At this point, it's a serious question not only if Kirkland will ever reach his potential, but if he'll ever really be a factor in the boxing world again. He's essentially out of the sport at this point, and the last thing his career needed was more legal setbacks. At this stage, it looks more and more like he'll become a "what-coulda-been" story.
