Lucas Matthysse says he's ready and waiting for a call to fight Danny Garcia, with the latest news on the fight being that it will not take place on September 7, as Golden Boy has ceded that date to Top Rank and HBO, who will have Julio Cesar Chavez Jr bringing in TV ratings in Los Angeles.
Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO) says he "hopes" that Golden Boy fulfills their promise and delivers Garcia (26-0, 16 KO), who holds the WBA and WBC titles at 140 pounds. Matthysse held up his end of the supposed bargain by wiping out Lamont Peterson in three rounds on May 18.
Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer says he is still working on the fight, and hopes "within the next week or so" to have a deal finalized and announced to the public. It is considered the best fight in the 140-pound division today, with there already being plenty of debate over who the real best in the world is at the weight.
