Banks vs Mitchell II results: Seth Mitchell gets 'revenge' in snoozer

Seth Mitchell evened the score with Johnathon Banks, but an awful display from both fighters has boxing fans praying there will be no rubber match.

In a dreadful fight that hopefully set up a better main event, heavyweight prospect Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell got his win back from Johnathon Banks tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, winning by unanimous decision in a puzzlingly awful fight that had the crowd booing for the vast majority of the bout.

Banks (29-2-1, 19 KO) rocked Mitchell in the second round after a first frame in which neither man really did much of anything, but couldn't put the former Michigan State Spartan on the canvas. For that round only, this resembled their November affair. After that, it got weird.

Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO) scored an official knockdown in round three, but replays showed it was debatable at best, and in my view, clearly not a knockdown. That's not a big deal, though -- the call live was certainly close enough that the referee had to make a call, and he made the call. And it didn't really matter, anyway, as Banks would stick his hands in his pockets for the remainder of the fight, doing absolutely nothing other than stand, wait, cover up, and, ostensibly wait on counter opportunities that never came, because a more tentative Mitchell wasn't nearly as reckless as he has been in the past.

When the decision was announced -- Mitchell winning on scores of 114-112, 115-112, and 117-109, with BLH at 117-110 by default, basically -- "Mayhem" let out a war cry, met by a mixture of half-hearted boos and silence. His post-fight interview with Jim Grey also didn't go over particularly well, and with all due respect to Seth Mitchell, it's really hard to see the world title future he desires at this point. His chin didn't look good again, but as always, he had the heart. There is no questioning his desire and dedication, or his willingness to go the extra mile. But will he hold up against a top heavyweight? Right now, I can't see it.
