Things I Think I Learned from Malignaggi-Broner

Please tell me when I'm wrong as well, feel like this is an opportunity for me to learn some thing. There's probably a lot fluff and logic that doesn't quite fit together or flow. Also yeah there's a couple of Mayweather comparisons, fair warning.

As much as Broner wants to model himself on Mayweather, he doesn't seem the have the same mental temperament as Mayweather does. Malignaggi did nothing dirty or illegal, but Broner kicked/kneed, rabbit punched him, throws punches on the break, and this is something I hadn't seen from Broner before. Whereas I think back to Judah-Mayweather, and Mayweather is calm, collected, touches gloves with Judah. I'll just take the leap and go with, Broner gets a little flustered when things aren't easy in the ring.

Post-fight Broner also seems like a complete expletive. Whereas Mayweather will at the very least be a bit gracious, Broner is determined to continuously drive home the fact he's won. Perhaps this fight was different, the personal tone to the pre-fight trash talk, he maybe felt that he needed to say it. All in spite of what I interpreted/lip read as Malignaggi wanting to seriously "squash this", Broner deemed it either funny/the right thing to do to keep running with it.

Activity and movement seem to stifle Broner, which seems counter intuitive to a degree because most people, including me, tend to think Broner=Good counter puncher. While he clearly can counter, he seemed to have almost all success when getting off first. I always thought of offensive boxing as exploiting human instincts to protect vital parts of the body. Which is why even though Broner didn't have respect for Malignaggi's power he's first instinct was almost always to defend, which allowed Malignaggi to regularly fire off combinations, interrupted by a counter only on occasion. Which leads me into my last piece of learning.

I'm not sure Broner's defence is all its really touted to be. Malignaggi hit him 230 somethings times (I could very well be wrong on that but it was quite a bit). I don't care how bullshit punch stats can be and what constitutes a power punch, if he got hit with pitter patter, a slap, a tickle or a kiss. The point I out take out of that figure is that he can be hit. The counter to this argument is of course, why does he care if he gets hit, Paulie couldn't knock out/over *insert any light inaminate object/really weak person*, but the way I saw it he was getting hit in all sorts of instances, and not just when he was walking Malignaggi down. Probably why everyone including me would like to see him in with Maidana and Matthysse, see how Broner goes when he's hit by one those.

To close, I don't like you Adrien Broner and your music really really sucks.
